It's been too long, and although I finished the manga, I stopped keeping up with the anime shortly after the Tartaros arc. I barely remember the last arc at all, save for a few key moments. I think I kinda sped through it just to get it over with. This time I'm watching with my brother and fiancee.

Despite its flaws, I still love it. The characters carry the show; everyone in FT for example, actually feels like a group of closely-knit friends. I also like how the side characters never become irrelevant and always end up getting fights, unlike something like Naruto or Dragon Ball where all that ends up mattering are the two MCs like half way through the story.

I'm a big fan of Zeref and Mavis as well; I think Mashima wrote both of them really well. And my god, the OPs and EDs in the anime range from good to amazing, with almost none of them being anything below that (there are still a few I don't care for though. But I wouldn't say any of them are bad). For a series with almost 30 of each, that's quite impressive.

What I am not looking forward to though, is all the nakama powerups. It gets ridiculous near the end IIRC.

Yes. Absolutely.

You're describing the pretty commonly agreed upon idea that the main character is Fairy Tail itself. Pretty damned well done concept tbh.

The fights literally get laughably bad near the end, but almost everything else cancels it out and makes it worth the time investment. It's certainly better than most long-runners.

Oh yeah, and the waifus. FT is chock full of them.

Well damn. I was planning on trying to catch up on One Piece through the summer but this sounds interesting now too.

A lot of stories have underwhelming endings. Hardly exclusive to shounen.

Its the worlds most vanila, boring, generic shounen action show. The only ways to enjoy it are to have seen very few shounen or reeeeaally like (dressed) anime titties. Even then youll need to ignore the fact that every arc past the first couple follows the exact same structure.

They usually don't have anticlimactic endings. Maybe it's just because manga tends to get rushed when they're ending.

I watched through FT for the first time last year and I loved it. Honestly a great anime up to a certain point. The writing falls off pretty hard but its still enjoyable.

Erza is one of the worst characters because a lot of the plot hax in the series come from her. She quite literally has plot armor. Remember her fight with Kyoka?

Given how often we see these characters naked and how narrowly they skirt the line with censorship, I feel like we can say that's not true.
