The ignition, is it?

Do you just have to push the brake pedal + a button to start?

I have it intentionally set to only start this way if the key fob is in the slot in the dashboard.

The other option is for it to sense the key nearby and start without it in the slot.

Mine is always on. I just get in and go.

With PIN to drive, I normally just enable the car from my phone and then get in and go.

My last three cars have all been push button start.

I don't even think the big 4 German brands make cars with a twist key anymore.

One of them is, one isn't (just a plain old key on that one).

My friend dropped his key somewhere in his car, and he couldn't find it the entire semester.
He was like "ah, whatever. The car still works. I'll find the key when I clean the car over winter break".

The FOBs still contain emergency keys just in case. The key slot to start your car is typically under the push start button.

So he couldn't lock the door for months? Anybody could just get in and drive off?

Oh yeah for sure, I just meant in general I don't think any of them just have an open key hole anymore except for the emergency.

I know Porsche had a twist key for much longer than the other three, but that was more like twisting the fob itself rather than an actual key, and that was only because they were trying to make them more like a race car.

Oh yeah yeah I get ya. I wouldn't doubt if they all did just straight up move past open key holes.

We have a mercedes c class in the house hold. Its the W205 gen pre-facelift. Still needs to plug the key in and twist. My sisters A-class which is also 1 gen outdated has start stop button tho. Not sure if hers is a face lifted version or she just has the premium package.

I remember getting my first push to start car, it was the second time in my life I was amazed by auto technology. It had a place hand on handle unlock feature which was also incredible. Sadly, my newest car you still have to press the damn button to unlock it, which honestly just annoys me as I always struggle to know if its already unlocked or not.

The first was my Grandfathers Crown Victoria which had a push code door lock, with digital display speedometer. Doesn't seem like much today, but back in the late 90s? That was so futuristic.

I had a 2015 W205 C300 and it was push button. Probably an option, like you said.

No, and maybe I'm just dumb, but push-to-start still seems like a really bad idea to me.
