But tora? How does a machine get paid? It's super easy, barely an inconvenience. Ya see, you just have to cut 40 hours from the store.

Yeah I found this shit out yesterday. My store manager has been trying to figure out why our hours got cut for the store. First she asked the market manager who just kind of blew her off a couple of months ago. Then she found out recently it was because of the smart checkout.

They took 40 hours cause the machine is supposed to do some of the work. Which is bullshit caus eit still needs to be manned because eof any errors that may occured or if people don't know how to use it. They also wanted it to be used as a register instead of one of ours unless we have to use the regular register. We also have a quota of how many sales we need on it a day, which is 470 right now tell them increase it.

Capitalism baby!

I hated using them.

But I found that the ones Wal-Mart now use don't have that stupid bagging thing.

Unless it's something regulated like booze or meds you just scan and insert money.

i remember my local grocery store changed to almost all checkout machines, with only 2-3 actual staffed registers. shit was a nightmare when they debuted that since the average person (at least in my town) was pretty dumb at using it. what should take 1-2 minutes took each person 5-8 minutes if there wasn't an error. after a while most people just went to the one with real people and i was able to use one of the other 10-12 machines quickly to zip through

The store I work at has self-checkouts for the 12 items or less lanes, and staffed checkouts for the normal lanes. It works really well I reckon. Those with less than 12 items but who don't want to use a self checkout can still usually get through a staffed lane pretty quickly.

Well this is at a circle k and they want us to use it as our main register. We get in trouble if the smart checkout doesn't meet it's quota, hell we were off by like 10 one time and they wanted to give my store manager a write up for it.

But yeah like y'all did it does take longer. It's kind of cool because it doesn't scan anything, it looks at the objects and matches it to a picture in the data base and rings it up that way, you have to finish checking out before moving the objects on the zone it looks at. Sometimes it gets things wrong or the wrong sizes. So we basically have to train people to use it. Someone who has never used it before won't know what to do period.

Then for cash you have to press the cash button otherwise it won't take it. Then I have people who are completely clueless and try putting cash in the change section or put it where the receipt goes. Like I get it, it's a new machine in general but common sense people. I know people use arms or other self checkout. Even then it's not that hard to read "bills" and "coins".

So yeah, the machine slows us down and it gets 40 hours from the store hours, it's stupid as fuck.
