I suggested to my parents to stay in a hotel 1-2 hours away and explore our area that they never been to.

They asked what they could do so I suggested beaches, shopping, museums, nature etc...

My mom says, "Why would we do that? We could do that any day."

So I said, "Yeah, but you don't".

They decided to go several states away for vacation to do the same stuff I suggested.

Where do you live and what area around you are you talking about visiting?

They probably want the prestige that comes from saying you've been somewhere exotic.

Or the fun.

Going to different countries gets you different experiences. There is value in it.

If I drive an hour or two in any direction it will be the same trees and plants and animals and scenery and weather that I see in my home area. I want something different.

going to the beach, shopping etc an hour or two away for me would mean san francisco, santa cruz and stuff. i like visiting those areas, and i haven't fully explored them, but i'd rather go to another state to do the same thing, yes.
