I paint my nails, I love buying and customising clothes and sometimes I wear a lil plain makeup. He just went off at me last night about how what Im doing is wrong, called me the r word meaning mentally messed up and how basically Im not a real man.

Dude was always a shitty father; even when myself and my siblings were small. He still to this day doesnt know my middle name because he only cares about himself and his friends.

An example being my mom telling me he missed my 1st birthday because he was busy getting drunk with friends instead.

Oh man. Sucks how parents put expectations off on their kids and their lives that sometimes come from before their kids are even conceived but unfortunately this is the world we live in. I get they should have some sort of say considering all the work, effort and time that goes into having and raising kids, but no parent should verbally abuse their kids because they didn't turn out a certain way, but are still generally good people.

Being a man means being able to live life on your terms - your father doesn't sound like a real man, and cares what other people think.

Granted i'm no parent, but I would much rather have a kid living happy with who they are knowing i accept them than one who thinks i rejected them.

I'm sorry you're subjected to that abuse from anyone, let alone someone meant to be a nurturer.

But his words do not define your reality, and the worth you hold in the things you like and do to feel good about yourself are valid and good.
