Both share similar gameplay loops: explore the content you have to get new upgrades to unlock new areas as well as enable back tracking for more power ups. It's kind of why they got portmanteaud. Pretty sure most Yakuza games have a skill advancement and unlock system that generally functions on gaining experience to get unlock points. Also: Like a Dragon. SotN has built in level ups, these influence your stats directly allowing am increase in damage dealt, decrease in damage taken, increase in hp and mp, has obtainable equipment which also effects stats, consumable items to recover hp, mp, or attack enemies or modify stats. The only common rpg element it misses is giving abilities on level up. Other than that they're very much different. Combat is different, atmosphere and environment is different. One is literal an ARPG and the other is not.
