A passenger has died after having an asthma attack on a British Airways flight from London to New York, it is reported. Shimoin Brauer, 25, is believed to have become unwell 45 minutes before the plane was due to land in the United States. He dropped his inhaler in a panic, a member of his Orthodox Stamford Hill community reportedly said. After falling unconscious the air crew tried to give him oxygen but were unaware that his airways had closed due to the asthma. They then attempted CPR for an hour but tragically were unable to save him. An investigation by a coroner is due to take place at a later date. The Jewish News has reported that the 25-year-old was heading to the United States to volunteer at a summer camp. Travel company vakazi.com said in a Facebook post it was with "deep regret" that it was reporting that Mr Brauer had died on a British Airways flight.

It stated: "It is with deep regret that we report the untimely passing of Shimoin Brauer, a 25-year-old bochur from London. Tragically, Mr. Brauer passed away on a British Airways flight bound for New York while en route to a camp. "Preliminary indications suggest that he may have suffered a severe asthma attack. The flight crew made every effort to revive him for an extended period of over an hour." Many people have paid tribute on social media with one person writing strength to his family and other saying what a tragedy and so, so sad. It comes as the mum and sister of a 19-year-old who went into cardiac arrest and died after suffering an asthma attack, are calling for CPR to be taught in schools. Delijah Roberts, from Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham, had just returned home from a trip away with his sister, 27-year-old Dellyne, when he had an asthma attack at home and went into cardiac arrest. He was rushed to hospital, where he remained in a coma for several days before he took a turn for the worse and passed away. Now Dellyne, along with the pair's mum Martine, are calling for CPR to be introduced into school curriculums - while efforts to save Delijah ultimately proved to be in vain, they believe others could benefit from the procedure being more widely used.

That must have been some really severe asthma for his airways to close that quickly and for him to fall unconscious in that short of a time frame. I have some really bad asthma myself, but it's not that deadly.

Sad to hear.

It can be sometimes. Most are just lucky to have someone near when it does.

Asthma attacks are no joke. Had three severe ones myself when I was a kid. And it can happen almost out of nowhere.

So unfortunate that he lost his inhaler amidst the panic. Poor dude.
