honestly, the controls in the DKC games are kinda jank... they felt like they had input lag even on console

Even though they're some of my favourite games, I get this. The 3D models are a lot less precise than a pixelated mario. It's far more difficult to line up the edge of a jump, and it's hard to tell where the platform begins and ends, because it isn't as 'pixel perfect'. That said, it took me a long time to get used to the controls - they kind of account for this. The roll jump allows you to jump in midair as you're plumetting to your death.

But DKC is a low tier platformer series. Check out NES for the good stuff. 6 Mega Mans, 3 Ninja Gaidens, 3 Castlevanias, 3 Mario's. If you need an easy SNES platformer game though, The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse is much better than DKC.
