in the past, when HIV would most likely lead to AIDS, I would have said life in prison.

but now since there are treatments where a person can live a full life with HIV, then maybe a few years in prison.

plus they should be able to sue you for what ever treatments they might need.

And I chose death. Life or time in prison only means further potential spreading and costing tax payers a shit ton of money for ongoing treatments. The key word for me here is "knowingly" and that's why I feel the treatment should be so harsh.

But then this begins to beg the question about knowingly spreading any sort of STD - This would lead to a much bigger debate.

People say "well it's treatable now", but look at the American healthcare system and how godawful and expensive it is.

There should be an ocean of difference in punishment between someone untreated, purposely spreading it and someone fully treated, but neglecting to disclose it to partners. The latter should still have a steep penalty, but it's not at all the same thing.
