These continuity errors are killing me. I get that the internet wasn't as prevalent back then as it is today, but shows had reruns. They appeared on multiple channels. Fans had memories beyond that of goldfish. Some of these errors are just inexcusable.

• Ashley is 11-years-old in Season 1, 13 in Seasons 2 and 3. Will and Carlton are 17 for all three seasons.
• Geoffrey hooks up with a woman who is above his station. Later in the same season, it becomes a running joke that he hasn't gotten laid in years. Like, you got laid THIS season.
• In one episode, Geoffrey is said to have been with Banks family for 15 years. In another episode, it's said that Hillary was conceived because Geoffrey arrived six hours late to a concert. Hillary is in her early 20s.
• In one episode, Queen Latifa appears as a fading actress who forces Will into a date with her. Four episodes later, she appears as someone Will's age with the conflict being that she's perfect for him, but too large. I could understand the same guest star playing two entirely different characters in different seasons, but these were literally four episodes apart.
• Will's mother is a little old biddy in her 50s in the show's intro, which we see in every single episode, but a 40-something girlboss when she actually appears in the show. We see Will's mom every episode. We know what she looks like. You can't just swap out a different actor and change a character's established personality like that.

Fun show overall though. So far, I'd say Season 2 > Season 1 > Season 3. Season 4 begins tomorrow.

The mom in the opening is the same one that appeared in his old music videos back then, considering that the opening is a Will Smith music video in its own right.

You're really reaching with that last bullet. Clearly his mom in the intro is just a caricature. Not suppose to be his actual mom.

It was also telling the story from Will's perspective, so that's how he viewed it.

On a related note, why did TC not have a fit over the living room change after season 1? It didn't used to have that staircase in the back. Don't think they ever explained it.

It's possible that that episode takes place chronologically later on in the season

That's neat. Most of the references to his music career are a little forced, but I appreciated the last episode of the third season where Will is failing his music class and he asks, "Does it look like I have a future in music?"

I really lack perception for detail, I guess. Somebody commented on the house looking stagey in Season 1 and I honestly didn't notice the change to the entire like I probably should have.

I can't remember if that was a Season 2 or Season 3 episode. If it was the third season, it probably would have created a continuity error because the linking story of that season is Aunt Viv's pregnancy.

Also, you'll find that in the last few seasons, the show breaks the 4th wall much more often, so you don't need to take the continuity so seriously

I liked when they poked fun at Nicky suddenly being drastically older the season after he was born. I think Jazz brought it up because he seems to be slightly aware that he's in a TV show

90s sitcoms cared nothing for continuity.

If you like continuity errors you should watch The King of Queens.

He brought up Aunt Viv looking different too.

there was that scene where Carlton ran around into ever scenery they had, even the cabin which was supposed to be set several miles away, and ended up in the audience

Yeah, that intro mom was basically an excessive music video.

What makes me upset is that they changed the personality too. First Aunt Viv was such a strong and outspoken person. Some of the best scenes involved her. The second Aunt Viv becomes a happy passive housewife background character. Not knocking the second Viv's acting cause she plays the part great. It's just the fact that they did a 180 on the character.
