warm? They def. are not flies or mosquitoes. They are like as small as mosquitoes but fly much faster than them. And they like to swarm around your face. They are everywhere.

Just to clarify, they also don't need lakes. Like mosquitoes, they only need a water source. They make large swarms as soon as spring arrives and you often have to swat through their swarms when walking anywhere. They're harmless and seasonal.

Sometimes small swarms of gnats like to hang out on sunny spots on the walking trail I exercise on, very annoying.

And don't forget that male mosquitoes also have fuzzy antennae and can easily be confused with
midges lol. And all of them are commonly confused with female mosquitoes
