Imagine its a really nice hotel in a great location.

Whats the point where you think, no, its just not worth that?

Unless my financial situation drastically improved, like $100, and I'd prefer cheaper if its an option. I don't care about staying in a luxury hotel.

I only ask as I recently had a hotel cancel my booking due to an administrative error and had to rebook when a lot of the more reasonable stuff was gone. My friend pointed out that I could afford some of the expensive stuff and while thats technically true, I feel like there comes a point where I just feel like Im getting ripped off, no matter how good it is.

Typically when I stay at a hotel it's just so I can be in the town/city/area the following day. I wouldn't pay much extra for a "nice" room because I'm really just there to sleep. Even if I was just on vacation, there would have to be some major amenities for me to pay any extra vs just going with a decent but cheap hotel.

For me, that point is when it gets to be over 500 per night, but I get that its different for everybody.

Yeah, it really depends what Im going to be doing. For instance, Im going to be spending some time in Edinburgh meeting up with an old friend. They only have a little flat and their wife has just had a baby so Ive opted not to stay with them, but I dont need anything fancy. Im just going to sleep and shower in the room, nothing else.

Sometimes I will pay for a nice hotel or resort, but I do that more in Asia because even a lot of the expensive ones are actually very reasonable.

Maybe $200. If Im vacationing, Im spending my time exploring the area all day, not being in a hotel.

$200 is my line, but like weekday in a decent place for $130 range is fine for me. I was in the military so i've never been picky about where I try to sleep.

Probably $300-400, but it would have to be in a great location. Obviously, I would prefer to pay less, but sometimes its worth it to splurge a little.

Well, I guess the answer is $1,100/night because that's what the hotel for my honeymoon is going to cost.

Ordinarily though, I'd never spend anywhere near that amount. Only doing it because it's a once-in-a-lifetime (hopefully) occasion. Haven't told her yet what the price is for this probably never will.

For a regular hotel visit...probably 200/night would be my maximum I'd tolerate.

Yeah 200$ would be my nightly splurge rate.

With these places being check in 3pm or 4pm and checkout 11am it hardly seems worth it

I could go for $1000 if it was a really really really nice fucking hotel.

For just a boring room I wouldn't pay more than $300.

I took my then girlfriend to New Orleans and got a suite at one of the historic hotels. I think I paid around 600 for that? I don't recall exactly. Not too much more than that at any rate.

$1900 a night is the most I've ever paid. When I checked in, they told me Tom Cruise had stayed in my room. I told them that next time he came, let him know that I stayed there.

I have not, to my knowledge, stayed in the same room as Tom Cruise. The best I can claim is the president of Vietnam.
