I felt bad when I first heard the story. The more I learned about safety concerns being ignored ended that. Its comparable to people who dont have money to safely maintain their vehicles and get killed due to poor tire tread, except in this case those involved had the resources to reduce danger. Unlike drunk drivers they didnt endanger others. I would compare this to the man who made a homemade rocket to conduct an experiment to prove the Earth was flat and died in a crash.

And that's the root of the issue with people that get up on their soapbox about how fucked up other people are. They don't really care about the people who died in the sub, they're just trying to cash in on a quick "wow look how cruel everyone else is, I'm a good person for not participating." You just want to feel good.

actually i think the root of the issue lies somewhere buried within whatever causes people to give this much pushback over being told it's fucked up to point and laugh at people dying. i'm not in this to say a thing about myself, and why the fuck would i engage with the people i have been if i wanted to feel good in any capacity?

what i want is for people to act their fucking age and know when to turn down the edgy internet dial for 5 minutes. now i think you've made more than enough "no u" accusations for one argument

Here's your problem, you think that these deaths are for whatever reason just as tragic as the millions of deaths that happen worldwide for reasons we could collectively solve. They aren't, in fact one of the people that have died in this scenario are a part of the class of people that perpetuate the system the causes millions of preventable deaths each and every single fucking day.

Not so much laughing or wanting them to die. I think it's a horrific way to die and I hope they are alive. However, they knew what they were getting themselves into and the risk associated with it. It's a fucking tin can going down incredible depths with insane delta p pressure, but they paid 250k for this shit. Billionaires would pay 250k for this than increase their taxes and then end up spending millions of tax payer money on a search and rescue.

i haven't said a single thing about how tragic these deaths are compared to other deaths. in fact, if anyone cared to read what has been said instead of just piling onto the designated bad guy, you'd see i've said it's completely reasonable not to feel sympathetic. that doesn't mean i also must be okay with the deluge of edgy memes and quips from people who just want an excuse to make jokes without feeling bad about it. a lot of words are being put into my mouth when all i've really said is people dying isn't funny.

You tried to use this as a platform to throw shit on other people, and keep circling back to people making you out to be the "bad guy". Politeness is absolutely too much to ask for when it comes to people that continually do everything in their power to keep humanity as fucked as we are currently. There are varying degrees of whether or not a person should be respected when they die. If you're a piece of shit that has spent your life causing suffering I would absolutely encourage people to celebrate your death. If you were altruistic and spent your life doing everything you could to make the world a better place then I would agree it is very distasteful to mock your death.

It's sad, and even moreso because it was completely unavoidable.

These people paid multiples of the median US salary to get in a soup can piloted by a fucking Logitech controller. It would be hard to make up such a ridiculous scenario if you sat down and tried, so of course people are going to run with it.

I think people have just reached a point of accepting that chaos theory is playing out before our very eyes and it's becoming harder and harder to distinguish real life from the headline of an onion article. Once you've reached that point, all most people can do to cope with the absurdity is crack jokes. Because if they didn't, then the crushing reality of everything will set in. And let's be honest, some jokes being cracked is a lot more "polite" than what people have given the ruling class on multiple occasions throughout history, so I'm inclined to not really bat an eye at it.
