Bigots like to think of themselves as simply "normal", and having a label to describe their own selves as takes away from their feeling of "normal" while it also upsets them because it makes transpeople out to be less of an outlier.

I accept that even "cracker" is a racial slur that should be banned.

But "cisgender"? How can that possibly be a slur? A slur is something that insults someone based on an immutable characteristic. But where is the insult in cisgender? It's simply a description to contrast with transgender.

What are we supposed to say now? "Non-transgender male"?

It's not inherently a slur. It can still be hateful depending on context, but "slur" implies the word is inherently offensive regardless of context.

Cisgender or cis is not a slur in any context.

There are words that can be used as a slur in some contexts but not others, such as knob, ass, jerk, etc.

Some people speak disparagingly about girls or women, eg: you throw like a girl / woman. That doesnt make woman or girl a slur, either. Theres a difference there.

Of course cis is not a slur.

But when someone says "don't call me cis" and the result is people calling him "cissy" that's harassment and intended as such.

If someone says "don't call me trans" it would also bad taste to spam them with such messages.

The difference: Musk would not give a fuck about the other way at all.
