I believe Woolsey was over the Super Mario RPG localization as well, and that game also had some weird stuff in it. Many of the established Mario enemies didn't have their correct names, and the spell in which a fireball is shot at the target was for some reason called "Drain".

I really never thought Ted Woolsey's translations are that bad. Hell, Secret of Mana had to be completely localized in just two weeks after release in Japan.

Compare his stuff to something like Breath of Fire 2. It's fine.
I think Woolsey's aren't great translations but at the same time I think in context they're unbelievably great translations considering what he was working with. It's evident that in the 90s translation was altogether an afterthought so by modern standards it's almost all not great.

Not even that. I would be happy with 3D models like Dragon Quest 8. Or even make it 3D with some parts 2D. I dont think SE will do a good enough job to make the 2D look completely different enough than the original.

2D.dont want. I want a 2D sequel or a full 3D remake. The SNES graphics and even the remaster on PC still hold up.
If they go the pixel art route, I assume they'll hit a washed-out style like they've been doing with the Final Fantasy remakes, which I'm not a fan of. I know the chance of this is basically nil, but I would be overjoyed if they did hand-drawn 2D.

guilty as charged, you're not completely wrong. I still really like his translations though. It's definitely partly nostalgia.. but it's still a personal selling point.

Much as I love Chrono Trigger, I think I'm past the age where I've gotta own all versions of things I like. I didn't even pick up the pixel remaster versions of the FF games I love because they cut the GBA added content along with introducing some minor glitches.

For this version of the game to be worth it, I'd want it to be tangibly improved in some way besides graphics. Otherwise I'd just play a version of the game I already own when the mood strikes me.

It would still please me to see this happen, though, since it would give younger people a reintroduction to the game and a chance to try it.

But I acknowledge I'm in the minority. I hated in for Frog, I hate it for Ha'nit in Octopath, I have it in the early DQ games. Hell, I hate it in MODERN DQ games, with all yhe regional dialect they give.

As far as I'm concerned, it just makes things more annoying and slow to read, when I have to half-translate everything these people are saying.
