It has gotten worse, and will continue to get worse as long as voters continue to be apathetic, and Establishment Democrats do nothing about it. This used to be mostly restricted to red States, but the complacency has allowed it to creep into blue States.
So, the republicans who are pushing for the divide arent' as bad as the democrats not pushing back hard enough about it. Makes sense. Like the guy beating his wife isn't as bad as the wife not pushing back hard enough.

The real problem is that most Americans (black Americans too)

fail to realize that racism getting worse always, always coincides with everything else getting worse.

Come to your senses, please. It is in your best interests to move this country closer to democracy. Even if it is a $5 donation.

I still think it's pretty silly to cite it, and nothing else, as a primary reason for racists becoming bolder and more numerous

What is silly about it , you are I think saying racists are becoming bolder/more numerous and my post said the opposite. What are you asking?

well your post didn't say the opposite exactly. black people being "more respected and looked up to than ever" may or may not be true (not entirely sure how you'd measure that but there's probably a way). even if it is true though, that's not mutually exclusive with racists becoming bolder and more numerous (which they definitely have been since Trump started his bid for republican candidate). the people who "respect and look up to" black people are probably a different subset of the population than "racists who are becoming more emboldened"

it does seem reasonable to me that interracial porn would have an effect on how some of those racists view and interact with the world, but I think it's pretty silly to mention it and nothing else when there are certainly other things -- even other media -- that is definitely having a larger effect. Fox News, for example, is basically a far right propaganda network at this point

Agree. Seems to be a lot of 2 steps forward one step back. End slavery but get Jim Crow. Pass civil rights legislation and get red lining. We have respected black people reaching presidency and other high spots in society but the attacks from the racists get more public and more hateful.

I'm reminded of Malcolm X's analogy. I'm paraphrasing here, but he said something like:

if you stick a knife 8 inches into my back, and then pull it out 6 inches, that isn't progress. the knife is still in my back.

basically, we're still not at a point where the knife is actually out of their proverbial backs. once that happens, the wound still has to be cleaned and dressed and allowed to heal. it's not until the wound has actually healed that I think we can reasonably say that progress is being made

Spoken like someone who has never been ""stabbed or even close to it in their life. Im a huge fan of Malik Shabazz, but he would be astonished if he saw the current US. There's probably a lot of shit I could drop that would cook your noodle if my op never even occured to you. Not acknowledging the progress that has been made is legit disrespectful to all the civil rights leaders , of all races, who fought and died to get us here. We had a black president for fucks sake.

That doesn't mean much when racism is not only alive and kicking, but by some metrics is actually increasing in intensity. When one of the two major political parties in this country not only refuses to disavow the neo-Nazis and White supremacists in their fold, but openly embrace them with open arms, then we've got a problem.

Hell, there's some merit in the argument that the US electing a Black man as President is what caused this massive backlash to begin with. It's actually what some White nationalist groups were actually hoping for before Obama got elected.

Hardly anyone will say that we've made NO progress, but we could do a lot better. We have a major political party that is basically a Neo-Confederate Party hellbent on rolling back those gains that were made in the Civil Rights legislation of the 1960s (with a Federal court system and Supreme Court that is willing to oblige).

The 57ish years of integration that we've enjoyed are really the nation's second attempt at racial justice. The first attempt (Reconstruction aka Integration 1.0) last about 12 years before being put down with EXTREME racial violence and a Fed and Supreme Court that turned its back on black citizens ushering in Jim Crow. We're in Integration 2.0, what will happen now, especially if slapdicks like DeRacist and (God forbid) Trump get into office again? We're in Integration 2.0 now, but also under the second Civil Rights legislation (the first got axed buly the SC following the end of Reconstruction), the rights that we do enjoy have always been tenuous hanging by a thread.

Obama getting to the Presidency isn't a good marker of where we are, he got in by a coalition of minorities and a portion of white voters, he did not get the majority white vote both times he ran (as with any Democrat during Presidential elections over the last five decades, but even more pronounced in this case). Hate groups actually wanted him to win to accelerate their agendas like another user said. Over the entire history of the United States we've only had 11 black Senators, of which 8 are still alive. We could do a lot better.

It's not pointless at all. Malcolm X never dreamed a society like this could "work", I doubt you read his autobiography where he argues for segregation. Ftr to Protect black people from whites.

try me

Calling innocent people racist so one can virtue signal actually increases racism. You get all the stigma and none of the satisfying hate. This is one of the main areas liberals fuck up when they trip over their feet rushing to kiss a minorities ass.

personally I think pretending you know what Malcolm X would have thought about contemporary US society is significantly more disrespectful to him

If you knew what his beliefs really were, you would think the same thing. And I said disrespect to ALL civil rights leaders, among which were many "white male Christians and Jews".

that... is not, in and of itself, progress

A black man as president of AmeriKKKa isn't progress to you? Let me ask , what more do you expect this country to do now that equal rights and civil rights are in place? Is it about equality or equity , I guess that's the important question dealing with someone like you.
