The developers have emphasized that these issues are minor and not critical to the overall gaming experience. Therefore, even players without an internet connection will still be able to enjoy the game without these updates.

The 300MB update aims to optimize game performance, and it will be available prior to the games official launch, thus eliminating the need for players to download it on the actual release day.
The development team at Square Enix plans to address a variety of issues with this pre-release patch. This includes progression and crash issues, performance optimization in multiple locations, and minor text corrections. They have noted that the crash issue, in particular, is an exceptionally rare occurrence, but they believe it necessary to rectify this ahead of the games release.

Not surre if this is better or worse.

I think better.

So Creative Business Unit III intentionally tries to avoid doing the thing people bitch about all the time where game companies rely on Day 1 patches and releasing broken games on the disc.... Then they found some minor glitches and is able to get a small pre-release patch out out to correct them.

I fail to see how this is something worth being upset over?

I don't have an issue with day one patches I have an issue with a developer bragging about not having to need one but then releasing one anyways and looking like an asshole

And they already said the patch is not needed and that it just fixes minor glitches and an 'exceptionally rare' major glitch that was discovered.

This is not an egg on face moment, this is a game company at least trying to do the right thing for once.

How is that being an asshole? He was confident in his product and apologized when there was something wrong.

they never said anything the TC said (clearly). They pointed out that at the moment FFXVI didn't need a day one patch but that could change between then and the games launch.

People are really scraping the bottom of the barrel to find things to troll this game over, it seems.

https://www.gameinformer.com/exclusive-feature/2023/05/22/a-day-one-patch-for-final-fantasy-16-is-not-currently-planned

The first is that the team is confident in its final build of Final Fantasy XVI. The second is that he and producer Naoki Yoshida (and the rest of the CBUIII team) believe the game should be ready to go at launch, recognizing that not everyone has access to the internet needed to download a day one patch in light of Final Fantasy XVIs global simultaneous release. So as of right now, we wont be downloading a big patch on June 22 when the game hits PlayStation 5.

However, Takai notes that CBUIII is testing the game daily and searching for bugs, and things could change as a result, but right now, like in the days of old Final Fantasy, this entry should work entirely as expected out of the box.

yeah totally got 'em, TC...

Yeah to be fair it sounds like the game can be played just fine without the day 1 patch, just a few minor performance issues. Which is what a lot of games need to launch with, honestly.

Games these days still launch in horrible states without the day 1 patch and it sucks. The Callisto Protocol is a complete shitshow without the day 1 patch: sound and performance issues everywhere, constant crashes, and you can't even clear the game because of some major coding issues at the end.

They don't need one. The article literally states that its some minor and rare touch ups. The idea of the game being completely functional and complete on disc is still largely intact.
