I thought it was received as being kinda weird and janky but with the second game upcoming, sounds like people fucking love it?

It was quite bad

It's been popular for a while now.

One of my favorite games. The pawn system, combat, OST and ending are amazing, as is the dlc.

It's very mixed. It's a bunch of really... poor design choices that some people are super into. Think of it like a Demon's Souls that never got a Dark Souls: there are compelling aspects there, but by and large the jank will lose most people. It also has a far more relevant social aspect to consider, so having friends involved can make it a far more compelling experience.

It shows up on sales often enough that you might find it for a good enough price that you decide to pull the trigger, but at this stage definitely don't get into it unless you are getting a deal.

with some mods that smooth out some more annoying aspects (increased mobility/movement speed, health tuning so every big thing isn't a damage sponge, etc.) it's pretty stellar

Combat is great, albeit overrated.
OST is great.
Pawn system is great in theory, mediocre in execution.
The world is hit-or-miss.
Bosses are excellent.
The endgame and postgame are excellent.
The main story is terrible...generic anime tropes with nothing interesting.

Definitely worth playing. I wouldn't put it in my top 50 "best ever" list.

It's like Skyrim if Skyrim had good combat and was a good game in general

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen is the greatest RPG known to man. It rips apart the utterly horrendous overhyped overrated Skyrim (and yes I have played Skyrim) in every conceivable way possible.

I have played Dark Arisen over 26 times across 3 Xbox accounts putting in around 2300hours into is. I once played it everyday for a year straight.

I am so looking forward to Dragon's Dogma 2. It is about time for a follow up to the greatest RPG going.

Never played Phantasy Star Online but 3&4 are great games.

Super fun combat, among the best of that gen. Pawn system is neat and it was probably the friendliest online community I've ever been apart of since it's all just hiring each other's pawns and helping each other out. I love how the game handles postgame and new game plus, too.

Really, really love Dragon's Dogma. I think what people are saying about the jank and weirdness is probably correct; for me it hit super hard and I dug every aspect of the game.

I also thought the cyclical story and how it played in to the endings and post game was really unique and cool.

I can't imagine the Dark Arisen version costs all that much these days so I'd recommend anyone who's had an interest in it but never given it a shot to do so.

God tier combat

The story is really good but told poorly. Dark arisen part is one of the best dungeon crawling experience i have ever played.

The main problem is there's not much variety in term of regular enemies. Mainly just goblins and lizards and skeleton with the occasional drakes or cyclops.

Bosses are mostly amazing

It's really good. Absolutely.

It had a lot of great ideas that it didn't really stick the landing on.

Hopefully the sequel does it all right.

I thought it was fun, but I was also stuck in the house all day because of the pandemic. Great way to kill 120 hours.

I really enjoyed it. I never beat it tho, I got bogged down completing all the quests and leveling several classes and trying different parties.

What I like best about it, is that it had a lot of the stuff I like from Breath of the Wild years before BotW: the gathering exploring, crafting, upgrading, etc. Really just when the whole open world trend was picking up.

Another game from around the same time Kingdoms of Amalur has a lot of that fun open world stuff, and both games have pretty solid combat.

I tried hard to like it 3 times, put 30 or so hours in, just never clicked for me.

Liked it alot for all its quirks.

You can send rotten fish to other players for their bad pawn. 10/10

It was pretty good and I enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to the 2nd as well.

One of my favorite games. Can't wait to see all of the improvements, and I hope it's 60fps.

I love the game. It has the right amount of jank to make it enjoyable, and the battle system was unlike anything else I played at the time. I took care of my pawn. She was not a slave.
