Forest fire smoke is going to be one of our primary exports until climate change is dealt with or some of the worlds most important forests are burned to the ground.

Ya, there is cloud cover here, and rain coming coming...but it is inordinately dark for being midday in June

I live in Montreal and it's pretty bad. I have family in Abitibi where a lot of the current fires are and it ain't looking good

It doesn't look like the rain is going to hit up there either.
It helped in Nova Scotia, which is good.
But ya, No Fun at all.

My cat is chillin' in his box top on the porch.
The sun that was cast on his box top was noticeably orange in color.

Annnd now we are getting hit with a Rain Storm that is evolving Hail.
I can hear it pelting off of everything.

Climate change won't be dealt with. While mankind has accelerated climate change, it was inevitable and will be inevitable, even if mankind staves off its own influence on climate change.

If we can manage to stave off our own further influence then that's when we can actually slowly work towards mitigating and reversing the effects.

I don't particularly have high hopes we'll even stave off further influence but I have a kid so I need to maintain some hope.

Reversing the effects of man-made climate change is fine, I feel. Reversing the effects of natural climate change, though... That's just messing with nature's natural progression and doesn't sound like a good idea to me. For instance, bringing back dinosaurs... Mankind wasn't involved with their original extinction. It was something that naturally occurred due to processes of the Earth after meteor impact. So, reversing that just seems like a bad idea. Whereas preventing extinction of a species because mankind was a jerk and destroyed habitat/hunted to near extinction? Bringing those populations back seems fine, as it's only moving towards a net zero impact.

Nobody is suggesting reversing natural climate cycles. What's going on is not at all natural, it's absolutely man-made climate change.

I never said that anyone was. I was just saying that we should stop during the reversal of man-made climate change before someone gets the idea to go even further (i.e., thinks that they should reverse natural climate change in order to keep humanity safe).

As I said earlier, I love my Canadian Neighbors.

I mean, that makes a bit of sense. Country of about 40 million people versus country of about 340 million people.

I think there is also a bit of concern from the US residents because of how far reaching the smoke blankets are in general. I mean, they were seeing effects down in South Carolina, which is nearly 1,000 miles from the border with Canada. If it's in your backyard, it's understandable. If it's on the other side of town and it still impacts your property, it's more likely to get your concern.

This is kind of part of what I was meaning. Wildfires that have been going on for over a month burning an area that makes it the 3rd worst fire season so far this century for the entire world (which I know is somewhat skewed by our size since the second largest was in Russia) and the largest in modern North American history with months to go in the season and there was almost no attention to it outside of Canada. The smoke hits the US? International news headlines. I totally get that individual Americans would care until they were personally affected though. I know this mostly bitterness talking, but I just find it kind of annoying that the world doesnt care until the US is affected.

largest fires are farther to the west sadly

Damn thats as bad as what Washington did to us last summer or the one before.

Tbf we had a ton of fires but the smoke from those just went straight north and it was mostly Washington that fucked our air that year.

The worst haze weve had in Detroit area was at night. Made the moon look crazy. Havent had much since.
