We have had like 3 books in a decade

I think he's slowing down on his creative drive. You see it in a lot of writers, they lose the drive and the motivation to finish long stories (just look at George rr Martin).

I liked the latest book but I don't know where he's going with it. I think he writes shorter stories better and long overarching narratives.

Last book spoilers:
That war was a slaughter we lost so many good characters and it wasn't especially compelling. I hate so much that we lost Murphy. I wonder if that wizard's death curse actually did something so that what he'll die alone. Maybe it will compel him to pursue Molly since she's a bit more untouchable than your average human being a winter lady

Also If you're listening to the audiobooks you can see that James Marsters age really caught up with him with this last book. He used to do such perfect voices, well I guess some of his female ones aren't amazing but he has always been the voice of Dresden to me and now he sounds pretty old.
