FF8

Hated the draw / magic regenerate system (so tedious), hated the junction system that encouraged you not to use magic, hated the lengthy summon sequence.

And that's just talking about the gameplay.

to me the important part of that is when the game's balance actually is being tested, and that is during fights that can actually beat the player. sure, you can disengage with the system entirely on laugher random encounters, but if you're fighting things that are appropriately (or even too) difficult you're milking as much damage as you can from the combos and probably doing the guard charge-up thing beforehand as well. how does the game expect you to play when you're trying to win? that's what balance actually is, in any game.

I have zero idea on what's you're talking about here

i think you might remember 'em a little longer than they were. 20 seconds is a while, like, you think i'm complaining now if they were 20 seconds oooooooooh

Uh... Okay?

what makes for a good map?

Definitely not a predetermined dotted lines.
If they're not making it explorable, why not making it just simply click on the location like what other games did like Grandia 1&2

i'm saying the battle design isn't really put to any sort of fire if you're just beating up on things in the first area.

how do you feel about super mario world's overworld map?

I must be tired because I'm still having problems understanding this.

It works, but Mario World is not a JRPG and it didn't put a random encounter battle when traversing between places for the sake of (fake) exploration.
Heck, even LoD's "random" encounter is not really random.

I would have to second Cyberpunk 2077. I don't care how many fixes it finally got, the game itself was just boring to play.

The problem is that they focused on the bugs and did absolutely nothing to make it the "next-gen RPG experience" they sold everyone the game on. They fixed none of the real issues and once Edgerunners came out and people liked it suddenly opinions shifted because I guess if you like an anime that means the game is magically amazing.

i'm trying to say that it doesn't really matter what you do in battles until it actually matters what you do in battles. meaning, if you fuck around, you lose. you need to do as much damage as you can.

It works, but Mario World is not a JRPG and it didn't put a random encounter battle when traversing between places for the sake of (fake) exploration.

lol, smb3 did sometimes. but i guess i was trying to angle at the idea that the exploration requirement was served in smw by the individual maps and not the world map.

Came here to say this. I'm really sick of people stumping for inexcusably awful games because "well it got better 6 months after launch!" First of all, it's still terrible. Second of all, don't these people care that the company deliberately sold them a product they knew was broken?

People simping for a game mostly because they liked the tie-in cartoon truly is a new low though. As if they're unable to separate the two in their minds.
