The original version of Aladdin made over twice as much as the original version of the Little Mermaid.

Similarly, according to boxoffice mojo at least. Both versions of Aladdin made more internationally than domestically (USA), and both versions of the Little Mermaid made more domestically than internationally.

And as for live action, Aladdin is just people in stupid costumes and not actual humans dressed up as fish, which sounds fucking annoying to look at (and it is, in the trailer at least).

However, Im of the opinion that its actually still overrated and is way too successful for the amount of effort put in, and all the other soulless Disney trash is just another level of undeserved success. Its just a shame that its racists that brought it down and not people realising its a bad movie

That was the last live action one I saw. I know Lion King was like the highest grossing by far, but I didn't care. I liked Aladdin just fine, but I don't get the point of these live action versions. I would rather watch the old animated one instead.

I won't pretend that racism isn't a factor, but I think this film would have fallen short of expectations regardless.

Not gonna lie, the weird fish cgi is real turn off. He looks a lot like a real fish, but there's a reason fish aren't mascot characters. Real fish aren't adorable.

The order for these is out of wack. Should have been done around the same time as Beauty and the Best and The Jungle Book. Aladdin and The Lion King needed to be the last ones. They're the peak. Once you've done the peak it's only gonna go downhill.

cartoon:
-Triton hates humans, but one he becomes immobilized and sees Prince Eric defeat Ursula and save Ariel Triton learns that not all humans are bad and accepts Price Eric as Ariel's lover.

live action:
-Triton hates humans, gets turned into nothing and wakes up to find out that Ariel defeated Ursula herself while Price Eric was in distress. Thinks less of Eric for not being able to save his daughter and take on Ursula.

-Ariel becomes a human and struggles to swim with her new legs. needs help from her fish friends to get to the surface.

live action:
-Ariel becomes human and immediately knows how to swim with a human body. Manages to swim miles to the nearest shore without any assistance because she's a strong independent woman that can do anything.

you can dislike the film all you want but please be respectful and not make fun of Awkwafina's appearance.

I watched the movie last night and it was great.

Awkwafina being in it bothered me, but thats my only criticism of the movie. Dont like her voice

Based on the fact that the other garbage live action movies made billions, pretty sure this one is because of race. Wish the first few live action remakes failed spectacularly so that the live action bastardization craze can be nipped in the bud from the beginning. Still can't fathom how people and their kids didn't see the live action cgi as the nightmare fuel it clearly is.

The original anime was sort of a telenovela too, though this remake puts a bit more emphasis on the human drama element. Japanese fans have nothing but high praise for the show's CG quality and production values, though some nostalgic Filipino viewers are offended by the inclusion of stuff that never happened in the original like a love triangle and a bed scene.

People had no problems with black voice actors in the Lion King.
People had no problems with a black guy in Aladdin, even if they whined that he was going to disrespect Williams role.
