[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

You are correct that cases build precedent but that doesn't mean reach case doesn't stand on its own merit.
Are you against this as it is, or as a slippery slope?

and wont have further reaching consequences, its incredibly naive to think like that.

Contrive a scenario where you think this would be unfairly applied.

I know it's cool to root for unions but I do feel like we don't know the extent of the damages they did if even the left leaning Justices voted against them. It'll most likely just set a precedence for the level of damages acceptable rather than actually hurt union chances, which are low to begin with.

I feel like bitter people in general don't always act in a reasonable way. It's possible the workers went a bit too far in some aspect, and they had proof that the workers did it

The people defending this don't know what they are talking about.

https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/us-supreme-court-poised-give-companies-new-power-sue-over-strikes-2022-10-20/

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/5/6/AAL4LyAAEh6A.jpg https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/5/7/AAL4LyAAEh6B.jpg https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/5/8/AAL4LyAAEh6C.jpg

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/5/9/AAL4LyAAEh6D.jpg

The people that brought this suit were going to be compensated through other avenues. But they chose to bring a suit for damages instead because it will break the unions ability to strike.

And the supreme court disingenuously interpreted as "destruction of property" instead of "incidental destruction of company products" a distinction that makes all the difference in making it easier for the corporations to sue unions just to bully them from striking. It's intentionally setting this up this way it's not unintentional.

So many edgelord bootlickers...

Yes they went on strike.
Yes said company lost more money in the process.

Company is accountable for greater losses as a result. This is how a strike functions.

This is in the running for the single most absurd "analogy" I've seen online.

Yeah deliberately slicing open a live human being and then leaving them to die is the same thing is allowing concrete to harden in a way that harms nothing but a truck.

The irony of you having a link in your sig to a subsection of the Wikipedia article about strawman arguments, while making what is possibly the biggest strawman argument in the entire topic, is absolutely breathtaking.

Do you...actually need me to point out for you that homicide is different than property damage, both morally and legally? I was assuming you knew that. The structural issue is that the two things you're comparing are not at all similar. "They're both people doing jobs" is a tenuous connection at best when you're talking about literal murder vs allowing a truck to break.

It's like saying that Stalin ordering political dissidents into the gulag is the same as a guy spending time in the drunk tank for disorderly conduct because "they both went to jail." It's absurd.

Bullshit. They're often forced to represent people who don't pay dues and they do so diligently. They've been proven to raise wages for everyone and they're the ones who got us every single worker benefit we currently have. They're the only ones who even attempt to improve worker conditions and the balance between labor and capital. Your statements are based on ideology, not reality.

This seems very sloppy for Teamsters. Their strikes are usually very by the books because they're not in the business of losing money and in general like keeping a good relationship with whoever they're negotiating with.

It was mentioned earlier that they're effectively a corporation. They're kind of a middle of the road quality union for workers in comparison to other unions, but their reach is massive. This ruling won't hurt them really, but I can see it having some bad effects on the smaller and scrappier ones. The unions that really do go to bat for their guys may have to be more cautious.

Overall, this ruling probably seems fair in this particular case, but I don't like the long reaching effect that it may have. Bringing it to court this way was a deliberate attack on unions for sure
