There's only so many blanks to fill in with this story, so it's easy to assume a lot of things. What happened to him is inexcusable and we should not try to glorify what this woman did. There's just a lot that he could have done to not put himself in this situation too, and considering we have no reason to think he was personally violated beyond the obvious drugging and subsequent robbing at this point (was this woman likely even into him or just after his money and wouldn't he have noticed if any clothing was removed?), it's hard to feel all too terribly for him in consideration of how much worse happens to other unsuspecting people. My current view is that there comes a time where it is appropriate to think of what one could have done to prevent something bad happening to them, so as to prevent future harmful occurrences. It doesn't have to negate the wrongdoing of anyone else.

I'd be reacting a lot differently if it really seemed like a sex-related crime happened to him, but so far, it doesn't really seem that way. When it comes to having your personal belongings stolen, I think it more analogous to leaving expensive items on your car seat in an unsecure area. The drugging part makes it more fucked up though, and I could see why he might need some therapy because of that.

I think both are normal reactions in that scenario, coming from a guy whose gotten his car broken into multiple times and gotten very pissed off from it. I didn't appreciate it when people asked me stuff like where I parked it and much more appreciated when people talked about what fuckhead must have done it, but either is a common way for people to think when assessing the scenario overall. Thankfully I didn't lose anything of incredible sentimental value and I can chalk it up more to life experience than something I still derive trauma from, though I understand experiences can vary.

I always felt like this was bs, like there is an expectation that our society isn't secure, we're full of crooks, and it's reasonable to rob people given the opportunity to do so.

Then, of course, the kia challenge happened...

I never chose to interpret it as dissolving responsibility of the perpetrators, but more just how it's important to taken measures to keep you and your prized possessions safe.
