What do you do?

This Target situation...

It's easy to poke holes through every single option. No real good options here. Which option that I mentioned would you take if you were Target's CEO?

It's easy to whine and bitch but put yourself in those shoes.

If some bigoted nutter comes into the store and kills people over some t-shirts, that's on them. Not the conscience of a CEO.

At some point, you have to stop. What next, never fire a terrible employee in case they become resentful and return to shoot the place up? Close the schools and the shopping malls to tempting soft targets like children and families? Run a campaign advising the victims of abuse not to anger or leave their violent partners?

These evil people should not get a fraction of a percent of their twisted demands. And it is not the responsibility of Target to deal with the terrorists, it's that of the State.

Hire armed security/off duty police to stay on premises during all open hours. Raise the price of everything to accommodate the additional costs. Hope the inventory sells at higher price points.
I mean, Walmart already does this.

I can understand this. I guess it would come down to the viability of the threat. Then the hope that the person assessing the viability assessed correctly.

I've not seen armed security in either of the 2 Wally-Worlds near me. Maybe they do based on store location.

That's not a fair take.

If the CEO genuinely changed things to keep their staff safe, that's not a bad thing. A CEO should be doing that to begin with and we would be shaming any CEO who wasn't making conscious decisions to keep staff safe.

I haven't been following this story closely, however IF employees were getting threatened, it's not fair to say a CEO should be like, "not my problem" all to support a cause getting hisher staff threatened.

I'd also like to remind people it's not like they are pulling everything down.

Fake allyship all around.

They decided to try to make slightly more money via preformative caring about lgbtq issues and nazis decided to put their employees in danger. So just get rid of all the fake care and it all goes away.

until next week when the same terrorist mob demands that target stop selling lego, because they dared to make a pride flag set.

then next month when the same terrorist mob demands that target fire all their trans employees because "think of the children"

then next year when the same terrorist mob demands that...

Boom! That's right, this is all happening! You cannot change the channel now!
You know me, I'm a big fan of subtlety. But that's downright cryptic.

There's a difference between 'not my problem' and 'lives lost on your conscience' (as per the OP).

The only way to do everything to keep people safe would be to remove the product entirely. And then give in to every subsequent threat.

TBH, I dont get why people get hung up on whether it's fake or not.

Say it is fake, it still helps the community in slowly pushing more acceptance. Fake or not, it opens the door to other possible companies doing it, and if it spreads enough, then genuine companies doing it.

I know people want this overnight change to happen for good causes, but in reality you have to ease people into accepting it. So it's not a bad thing to have an ally appearing to promote your cause even if it's not 100% in alignment to why you want them to promote it.

The problem is the same whether the care is genuine or fake.

The Nazis aren't objecting to the level of sincerity.

IF Target employees were being threatened, to ignore that despite that knowledge would be saying it's "not my problem if my staff gets harmed."

The CEO would be consciously continuing a business decision that would be putting his staff in danger.

No employee should be placed in danger for a CEO wanting to stay firm on a statement. Right or wrong. You and I both know we would be shaming any CEO who was knowingly placing minimum wage workers in harms way for the sake of a statement. We agree is horrible right wingers are attacking/threatening Target staff (if that's happening as Target claims for their reason).

We don't agree it should be the minimum wage workers problem the right winger is clutching his pearls and threatening violence over a rainbow.

Great point... and your employees won't be sticking around long if they feel profits are more important than safety. Without the employees, profits go to zero pretty quick
