Government sponsored prostitution is the only solution to allowing men/women to fulfill their needs while seeking to lower sex trafficking. It would also lower the prices of illegal prostitution because now they have someone to compete with in price.

If you go to one of the well known brothels you better take at least a grand with you if you want to go all the way. There are probably smaller licensed places out in the middle of the desert that are cheaper but I'm sure there is a step down in quality and cleanliness.

If it has to be legal then there needs to be safeguards in place to protect both the prostitute and the person they are with.

Like an STD/I check
Always wearing protection
Proper disposal of condoms

I wonder why it is illegal, why do governments think they can control what people do with their bodies?

I still don't understand why legalizing it, makes trafficking go up. Makes no sense unless all those countries set it up in a stupid way

My idea would be for the US Federal government to basically be the pimp. Legal prostitutes would be considered federal employees. You aren't going to sell a sex slave to the feds. Everyone would be consenting

Northern Ireland did some legal changes in 2015, restricting prostitution more, and it didn't end well:

Government made it illegal because of the morality and the fact that government wants tax money.

basically the gist of it is that the negative effect of increasing the market outweighs the substitution effect of it being legalised. increasing the market/demand increases the exploitation at a higher rate than the legalization decreases it

No reason not to

People always want sex
People always want money

These two groups will always meet since the creation of money

Making it illegal just means we can't tax it and protect sex workers.

I also think on an ethical level, prostitution has to be legal in a "free" society.

You're not free if the government tells you who you are and are not allowed to have sex with (I'm talking between consenstual adults here you sick fucks) You're now property of the government.

It's legal in the UK, It's legal in Germany, It's legal in Nevada. They haven't burned down yet

Yea but nobody is going to smuggle in sex slaves and then get them hired by the US government. If all prostitution is managed by the feds, there will be no trafficking

We legalized it in NZ back in the 00s. There's been the odd case of antisocial behavior centered around brothels, and it hasn't completely eliminated sex trafficking (key word completely), but the overall impact has been positive and even our right wing parties (excluding those who are too small to be relevant) have no interest in reversing it.
