Just watched that arc where Ahsoka gets framed and leaves the Jedi Order.

It's funny how much that series of episodes sets up ROTS better than the other two movies did.

You've got the Jedi reputation as war mongers feeling more justified.

You've got Anakin's trust and faith in the Jedi being tested and their failure to stand up when it mattered. Which sets up that relationship both ways down the line.

It never felt like the PT earned that. But here they did. It's a shame that this stuff has to work between a pretty flawed framework for a cartoon because when they go for it they nail it.

Darth Maul is also way better in this show than he ever was in the movies.

I'm sorry. A film should stand on its own. When you need supplemental material to do damage control, that's a bad movie.

I overall agree.

I've always thought that it's a mistake to have wasted an entire movie on Anakin's childhood. It just doesn't add enough to justify it.

Yeah. The prequel trilogy should have begun where Attack of the Clones picked up.

With the benefit of hindsight, The Phantom Menace just wreaks of not knowing where to begin or who to focus on. It just kind of aimlessly launches the Star Wars name into the pre-original trilogy past. Who is really even supposed to be the star, Obi-Wan or Anakin?

it's kinda necessary for Anakin's arc to show him at his most innocent

I have an issue in that while his clone wars characterisation is great, I don't think it matches up with his film characterisation. In Clone Wars he's a cocky confident showman with the skills to back it up that's prone to lose himself in anger or despair. In Episodes II and III he acts like a broody stroppy teenager whining all the time. None of that bravado is there at all. I definitely prefer the CW characterisation, but the discrepancy is a shame.

Is it? I don't need to see Harvey Dent as a kid for two hours.

I'm talking thematically. episodes 1-3 are about Anakin's fall; episodes 4-6 are about his redemption. the fall is significantly less dramatic without showing him at his most innocent

I think seeing him more as a Jedi hero during the clone wars would have had more of an impact.

Knowing that Anakin was taken away from his Mom as a kid doesn't need a whole movie. That could be explained in dialogue or a flashback. Like every other movie that deals with characters who have falls from graces.

Yeah him being shown as an exemplary Jedi hero instead of a child and then a whiny idiot absolutely would have been a better arc for him in the movies

in terms of what's "enjoyable" for a hypothetical audience to watch, sure. not thematically though. war heroes are anything but innocent.

sure. that's an entirely different conversation though

I don't think thematically it's all that deep either. Like they had to make him a talented pod racer and pilot who fixed up C-3PO to give him something to do.

I would be fine with seeing that stuff in expanded content but there just isn't enough in the other movies to make up for it. Anakin's fall in ROTS is ridiculously rushed.

The Ahsoka arc in the final season is great.

It's too bad that the 150 episodes leading up to that arc are completely awful
