i just hate people who want to be in a position of advice giving but are impatient and condescending.

"well why would you think that..."

"why havent you tried something else?"

its that weird tone that sounds like an impatient mom dealing with their kid. a good advice giver first empathizes with the person which makes them more open to listen to what advice is about to be given. if you have no empathy dont give advice everyday like the person asking is an annoying problem to solve

I get what you're saying but I disagree a bit. And of course it all depends on what sub and what the question is and a bunch of other stuff.

Just using the one example you gave of "well why would you think that," I think that can be a very helpful answer depending on what the subject is.

Like if someone said to me "Super Mario World is the highest selling game of all time."
"Why would you think that?"
"Well I saw it on X website" or "my buddy said...."

It shows you that they are using a bad source and you can use that as an opportunity to point out the correct source. Or point out that their buddy is an idiot and everything they tell them should be taken with a grain of salt.

i mean like personal development advice where a why question rarely does anything but shame the other person in some form or fashion
