Why is Ganondorf still alive?

Wasn't it said Ganondorf couldn't revive anymore after Breath?

I believe the translations and wording was bad

I believe it was something like he gave up on fully reviving and forced himself to awaken not completely formed properly

Edit: I had to Google it, it's been a while. The original Japanese translation actually says that form was born from his obsessive refusal to give up on revival.

No idea why they changed it to almost the opposite

English translation botched it and basically said the opposite of what was actually happening at the end. TVTropes says

"It is implied that Calamity Ganon is the result of Ganon failing to properly reincarnate. Calamity Ganon seeks to regain its full strength and be reincarnated. However, its Hyrule Compendium entry states that Link managed to stop it before it could fully reincarnate, and it ultimately forsakes reincarnating to become the Dark Beast Ganon (in the English translation anyway; in the Japanese version, Dark Beast Ganon results from Ganon not wanting to give up on reincarnating)."
