I mean, there are a lot of salty feelings over Breath of the Wild's updates to the Zelda formula, but I actually liked them? But there are certainly some franchises I've really hated the changes to. Like how every Final Fantasy game is an action RPG now ever since 11.

Also, conversely, are there franchises you feel need to update their gameplay?

Pokemon could really benefit from a more direct action RPG combat system

Metroid needs to ditch that damn "slap" gimmick.

When runescape's combat system changed to a normal mmorpg style instead of just point n click and pray . Fortunately osrs exists

Also dmc 5 while great imo it did have some changes that made me sad. Like floaty gravity was added. I get y Capcom decided this. i think they just watched too many high tier dmc 4 combo vids and want to make this playstyle more accessible to ppl but it just make combat feel slower to me . Not saying it is easy now ofc dmc 5 has so many options that putting together things that looks cool requires creativity but I just wanna mash really fast and not worry about complicated stuff

Fable, just all of it. By the 3rd game they thought they were revolutionizing the industry by doing away with the pause menu, but in actuality all they did was just bog down the menu system by adding excessive layers and loading screens.

Most games I like either have follow-ups with way worse gameplay or no follow-up at all.

Jak and Daxter. Final game removed practically everything the series had built up to that point except for the guns. Hoo-raaaayyy.

I've got mixed feelings about Skyrim. Like, the leveling system for Oblivion and Morrowind wasn't really -fun- because you'd kind of unnaturally have to focus on jumping a million times to make sure you get your 5 stat points in a particular category, and the perk system made each skill a lot more interesting and leveling more engaging, but I also missed the freeform spell creation and spells like Jump and Levitation.

My main complaint with the Elder Scrolls isn't gameplay related at all though. They need to make the games weird again. That was the best thing about Morrowind, the setting. Its become more generic fantasy as the games have gone along. Morrowind was peak weirdness. And the actual lore of the games is very weird.
