Yeah I don't think I got it

I keep getting recruiters? Bots? Asking me to apply to jobs I don't qualify for

Piece of advice: Overexaggerate your energy and enthusiasm in the interviews. As someone who has hired people from basic retail jobs to people today starting around 60-80k for my teams, that's what I look for. I can teach someone how to do the job. But I can't teach enthusiasm. I'll hire someone underqualified over someone qualified 100% of the time if I like their energy.

Best of luck!

I still haven't figured out if I want to work or stay in school lol... I can't think of any program that would lead to a job because of people like the user above me and you.

Depending on where he draws the line for qualified or unqualified, as well as the field, not necessarily.

True, that context does matter.

Yeah, if the qualification is something you can gain on the job then it totally makes sense.

I dont think hes suggesting youd hire somebody with no background in medicine to be a surgeon just because theyre keen.

And my original comment said I'm hiring people today around $60-$80k. And those clearly are not surgeons. They are salespeople, where enthusiasm is the top predictor of future success. And another thing I'm finding in the job market is degrees are beginning to matter less and skills are slowly beginning to be the larger focus. I'm not saying degrees don't matter at all, but certainly not as much as they used to. A Bachelor degree has gone from must have to nice to have for my salespeople.

The only areas I'm familiar with that don't care as much about enthusiasm is anywhere IT related or research related. But even then, it is easy to identify those who are invested in their work.

I still stand by my comment though that enthusiasm is a top predictor of success. People who love what they do tend to do better than those who do it for no other reason than the paycheck. You don't have to be bouncing off the walls with enthusiasm but I believe most people get fired up about something and whatever that is, is what folks should lean into.

Anyway, best of luck in your search. Sorry for getting way toooooo deep here

Yeah, I get it. In my field a certain level of qualification is non-negotiable, but lots of people get qualifications beyond that only to find that it doesnt really matter. Ive worked for a number of people less qualified than me on my way up. Experience (quality and variety as well as quantity) is the key in my field.

I shouldn't have made the blanket statement. Many here have astutely pointed out, yourself included, that in some fields require qualification. Not sure I want some overly enthusiastic chump who has never picked up a socket to try to fix my transmission.
