We were busy as usual but my coworkers don't know how the cash register works(that's sarcasm) and I kept having to go to it. I'm a server in a diner so we have to serve, wash dishes, cash out but nobody knows any cohesion. I didn't sleep very well last night and I was running ragged, moving back and forth and started getting dizzy. Before I knew it, I turned around to go and get someone's order and I collapsed on the floor and blacked out for a few seconds. It just looked like the floor was spiraling and then nothing.

When I woke up, my face was numb and my arm was numb. They had to send for an ambulance to do some tests but instead of going to the hospital(like they wanted) I went home because I didn't have insurance. Coincidentally, a cop had walked in to ask a question about someone next door at the motel and saw me laying there so he got the ambulance real quick. I'm doing better but I feel like my speech is terrible and my reaction time is shit too.

My coworkers don't know how to work together. In the corner of my eye, I saw one just leaning against a wall while she could have gone to the cash register or done dishes. I had to work the whole bar and then some smaller booths out in the back and then kept being pushed into the register because people kept waiting to be let out.

Then having to do dishes and clean silverware all in the same go. Between feeling rushed and panicking about all the minor things, my body finally gave out. Its been like this for years but this was the worst of it.

EMTs said I were fine though. Blood pressure was fine, sugar, checked my vitals and all that.

Personally, Id have asked to sit down for a few minutes and possibly asked for something to eat since that sounds like your blood sugar was getting dangerously low and even if youre not diabetic, letting it drop too far can have some pretty dire consequences especially when youre already stressed out.

Did they give you some time off to rest, TC, or are you required to return today as well?

I'm fine now though. I feel like if I went see one, it would be pointless. I just need to try to slow down.

I get it, I do. I hate that I do it, also. I just hate seeing things fall out of place and sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who tries to keep it that way. But its building. I'm not young anymore.

They said my blood sugar was fine. When I came to, some customers sat me down and gave me some orange juice and a cop, who was there to find some perp, saw me collapse and called the EMTs over. They asked if I wanted to go to a hospital after checking me out and I said no.

They told me to go home so I went home but I begged them not to take me off tomorrow's schedule. I can't afford to skip work, even if I'm sick. I haven't called in, in years.

Right now I just feel like I'm blah. I can't say its slurred speech but I was having trouble talking for a moment. I feel better but if it worsens, I'll definitely call 911.

I will never understand why people let themselves be used and abused rather than just do what is asked of them and let the slackers crash and burn (or find another wait job)

Because nobody will point fingers at the slackers. The customers only see what htey want to see and over htere, we're all out in the open. If they notice I notice they're stuck at the register, they don't care if someone else is ignoring them, they just know I noticed. Not to toot my own horn but my attention span crosses the whole store. On the ohter hand, I have a coworker that cannot see a customer sitting in her section right in front of her.

This has nothing to do with the slackers, this is saving my own ass. Its also pretty messed up to point out that someone else is at fault. Its petty. If a customer doesn't get any kind of service AFTER getting their food, I can't just say "Well your waitress is fucking around outside" I end up having to take her place in that instance. The customer doesn't care.

It hurts even more when they give an amazing tip to the woman and not realize that she didn't do shit for them. This is all selfish reasons because regardless of my shitty coworkers, I'm still in the spotlight and I don't want to look bad.

They will help you

Last time I went to the hospital, I had to pay 3 grand and ended up not paying any of it. I think there's what? a 7 year limit? I know its unhealthy but I just don't go to the hospital. I get checkups and my checkups go well, I just take anxiety medicine which usually help but in this instance, it went extreme.

I had 3 coworkers that could have done something about it buuuut

  1. This coworker stood in the corner because her section was not near the register. She didn't feel necessary to go. Instead, she talked to other coworkers and just relaxed. She's the boss's niece.
  2. This coworker has been out for me for awhile. She's not all there. She has narcolepsy and a hard worker's complex even though she doesn't really do hard work. She's the type to do some work and then say she's been doing it all day. She's the one who will wait on customers and then go outside immediately to smoke. She's also a notorious tattletale.
  3. This one has been there the longest. She moves slow and she has Parkinsons and will do everything to the slooowest effect. Today she was drying silverware next to the register while a customer was waiting and I was trying to get through the dishes asap to ready for the rush. I think everyone forgets that we are never not done and so we slowed down so everyone just kinda began relaxing.

I end up being the only one who seems to know better and I try to prepare for the next rush. Instead, everyone else had dirty tables and were slow on the uptake for the next rush and big groups would come in and force themselves into my tiny tables and the whole bar because there's nowhere else to sit. Then I'm stuck at the register half the time while my cooks are yelling for me to get my order picked up and I'm telling them to hold off.

The panic attack started when I handed this woman her ticket for the to-go she ordered and then gave her food and someone asked if she was helped and she said "yes" instead of "Yes, here's the ticket. I'm ready to pay" so twice someone walked over and then walked away, leaving me to do it. I'm already in the midst of cleaning one table, preparing for the next. Then it took me three times to circle back to finally help her out and then go back to the next table who just sat down.

I was having trouble breathing and couldn't speak properly. My voice kept going in and out and then when I handed two plates to one set of customers, I turned around and walked away and fell on my face. When I woke up, I was surrounded.

I'm 35 and yeah I know. Its not working out. This isn't healthy but I don't know what else to do. I feel like their eyes judge me when I try to ignore the register and then I end up being the only one to actually go up there. I've even called someone to cash someone out and they ignore me. Then my boss gets pissy when I don't pick up food and then if I yell back(out of my anxiety), she gets pissed off and tells me to go home.(I refuse to)

12 years. I have a lot of regulars here and I make good money in tips so finding a new place feels like it would hurt me. I have bills and my hobbies to pay for which keep me from taking days off. I feel like I should slow down on how much I spend so I don't end up burning the candle at both ends for that sake.

I buy comics, manga, I have all the new consoles but you're right. I just bought the new limited Edition Zelda Switch and I think that bill is sitting on my mind, especially since I had an unforeseen bill. I make enough money to cover it and pay my credit bill notes but there are other matters that relate to my stress such as my noisy neighbors who ironically call the cops on me for being noisy(I'm quiet as a mouse)

My job is stressful and then I've had some problems with friends lately but I should probably slow down on buying games. I have a huge backlog and then instead of cooking for myself, I always order out. I should really try to slow down and do better for my pocket.

Doubtful. It's not impossible to live through a stroke without treatment but I've never heard of such a case where the person was mostly ok.

I would get an MRI just to rule out a few of the more subtle stuff like aneurysms, cancer, etc.

If you walk into an MRI clinic and just be honest about not having insurance they might give you a discount. I've seen that strategy work with a few people I know.

We can only claim worker's comp if we claim our tips. I do not. We have the option to put our tips into the computer so they can tax our checks.

You are correct.

My boss is also one of those who will complain to me about how I'm moving too fast or doing too much at once but won't look at the rest of them and tell them to actually move and do something. The more they do, the less I feel like I have to do. Why aren't people getting that? I pick up my pace to bring balance.

If you're still having problems talking, that's a sign of a stroke.

Also, were you dehydrated? That can make you dizzy.
And was it warm or hot? That could cause heat exhaustion/stroke.

Both of those could cause your conditions. The passing out, the confusion, and the slurred speech.

(I've had a number of cases of heat exhaustion in my life. And I've had severe dehydration once... and once is all I ever want to experience.)

I don't ever get time to just stand around and drink water so it could be dehydration. I was sweating. It was cold but I move a lot and I'm always drenched in sweat since I never get a moment to stop. There aren't any official breaks for us. Its usually possible if we slow down and we can just take a rest but unless you smoke, you're bound to get fussed at for doing nothing on the job. None of my smoking coworkers seem to have any troubles with going out and smoking though..

With how busy it was, I don't get time to stop and drink water or go to the bathroom. The lack of a thirty minute break or even a ten minute break pisses me off. I've gotten used to it though.

I stopped watching DC and One Piece lol. Mostly for the lack of time. I like sitting out on my stoop and reading manga or my comics. And as much as I'd love to just read on my phone, nothing beats the physical copy. I will most likely stop buying manga once I am done with my current series.

All i neeeeeed is Kekkaishi, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Dragon Ball Super, Boruto, and D. Gray-Man <_< Of course most of those are ongoing but..I'm not going to try any other series. They're also the reason I need to keep going at it at work lol

If you were sweating a lot, it might have been dehydration.

Also, you can tell if you're getting dehydrated by the color of your urine. If it's clear you're properly hydrated; if it's yellow, you need to drink more water; and if it's brown you're extremely dehydrated.

And if you're dehydrated, that will cause dizziness. I know it did for me. I had gone to the gym and exercised... and afterwards, I couldn't stand up because I was too dizzy (I kept trying, but couldn't stay upright). After going to the hospital, the ER gave me an IV and I went through three full bags of saline solution.

I never want to go through that again.
