Repeating yourself is not communicating. How do you intend to get this rom? I bet it isn't by buying a copy of the game.

I do and used it correctly. Punishing someone because they said something you don't like is explicitly censorship.

There is nothing wrong with emulating their games or promoting emulation.
Depends where the game files come from. Could be completely legit, could be completely open seas. Thus the fine line journalists have to dance around, and why it's generally it's not acceptable for them to promote emulation even if for legit reasons.

Oh dear this topic is getting off the rails.

Nintendo is right, Kotaku is wrong. Nice and easy. Nintendo has the say to who gets any of their previews and if the media site says stupid shit that Nintendo is notoriously picky on (emulating and roms specifically) then that is their prerogative. It is not censorship, it is literally how previews and first hand impressions work.

No, I understand perfectly. Nintendo is punishing Kotaku for something they shouldn't be punished over. Nintendo is in the wrong. Kotaku was definitely stupid to post it, but that doesn't make what happened justified.

Man people defending Nintendo here are the worst. This is no different than blacklisting them for giving a bad review. Regardless of how you(admittedly justifiably) feel about Kotaku, this is a big corp abusing their powers to censor a smaller group.

Reviewers who get to go to closed pre-release showcases already have to censor themselves to maintain their relationship with companies providing them with access and privileges. You can't get away from that inherent conflict of interest. If you want someone to speak freely, he has to have zero potential or realized monetary ties to anything he's reviewing; i.e. Kotaku needs to go hit the stores come launch day for a 100% conflict of interest free review.

the extent of what kotaku did wrong was just publish an article that goes against nintendos corporate values and nintendo revoked early access to games for it. thats obviously what was gonna happen so no, IDC about kotaku for bringing this on themselves. I'm just saying that Nintendos corporate values are shit and anti-consumer and they are more in the wrong than kotaku is. Next we'll see defenders for wizards sending pinkertons to some dudes house to threaten him

I mean, I'm definitely not him, and I'm definitely not anti-Nintendo, but they have a lot of practices that deserve to be called out. All of the big three do, even when limiting it just to gaming. Hell, I still feel Sony should've faced legal action over how they handled the Bleem case.

Regardless of your stance on emulation or piracy, Nintendo is not under any obligation to provide review copies to anyone. If they don't want to give you free games before their release date, they don't have to.

They withheld review copies from a major gaming group over something that absolutely didn't justify it so you're objectively wrong.

Nope. At their scale piracy does no damage, and depending on the study you listen to, might even help sales.

Metroid is not super successful franchise like Mario that piracy won't really hurt in the long run. It's a series that piracy can easily turn into a "not profitable" venture. People bring up "back-up" copies, but you know full-well that 99.999999% of emulation are not using "back-ups" of the games they purchased.

You want to argue that companies shouldn't prohibit you from emulating games that they no longer give you an accessible way to purchase? Go right on ahead. Metroid Dread is on a console that is highly accessible, and the game itself is also accessible. By encouraging emulation to people, you know full well most don't have the capabilities to do so, and know full well how most people emulate games. This is a bad-faith argument.

No piracy was absolutely no danger to the game, sorry. There have been studies upon studies for this.

But at this point people have no interest in discussing actual facts so I'm just gonna leave this, Nintendo was wrong.
