He does it for selfish reasons. Infact he on record said himself he desperately wanted a Nobel prize.
He said this is why he was around Epstein. That his claim at least so people don't think he a pedo. And that why his wife left him.

But keep in mind that money they give away is wages they stole from workers and opportunity they stole from others like how he stole code.

On the other hand the billionaire who gave it all away and now lives in a literal hut is much worthy of praise but I bet you don't even know who they are.

Look I'm all for criticizing billionaires and all the other elites, but why do I care if he's doing good deeds for a selfish reason so long as he's still doing good deeds? I'm sure there are actual reasons he deserves criticism, I just can't see "yeah, Bill Gates does charitable stuff, but he only does it so people will say he does charitable stuff" as a valid criticism because at the end of the day regardless of his selfish desires he still did the charitable acts.
