1. Prefectural law override national law, in Tokyo the Age of consent is 18.
2. That 13 years old aoc only applies when the partner is also 13 to 15 years old. Older than 15 and less than 18 count as juvenile, and more than 18 is full crime.

They should have added laws on how you can portray minors in entertainment media like anime or games. That would save so much headache and stop people from being creeps, even if it is "fictional".

She's a teacher (late 20's) and he's a student (25 iirc). But they've been dating before he got into college.
Heck the only reason he goes into college is because her parents refused their daughter to be engaged to someone without diploma, so he enroll to the college.

Feel kinda weird I bumped this topic. I didn't play Persona for dating reasons heh but I just thought a more adult cast could be interesting again.

I mean, if we're using the not in real life logic you might as well not care about age at all, it's just fiction. I'd say Byleth only being able to S rank after the 5 year timeskip and even then only after the war is over, when most of the students are older than them and far past being students makes it nowhere near as sketchy as an actual ongoing student teacher relationship. The former not being illegal while the latter potentially so.

It is also considered as statutory rape even if the person is above age of consent if the other person is in an authority position such as a teacher, a doctor or a parent

Even aside from that, most colleges have policies against it which can result in termination or expulsion.

Byleth is 26 at the end of the game. They often say he was born 21 years ago pre timeskip. I don't get how so many people missed it. They're dead/inside that magic dream dimension coma for 5 years so they don't mentally and logically physically age at all as shown by how they don't level up through the timeskip so technically the students become older than them.
In any case you're missing the part that Byleth isn't their teacher at all after the timeskip, hasn't been for 5 years, and the S rank only happens after the war and the game ends anyway. It's akin to a college intern tutoring high schoolers for a year and then after 5 years later of not seeing them happens upon a former student who have long since graduated and have their own jobs and get into a relationship with them. It's nowhere near as sketchy as an actual student-teacher relationship where even in college could be illegal.

Pretty sure it's not illegal, but against the college rules. As in they can get fired for it, but won't go to jail

As I've shown it can be considered statutory rape in some jurisdictions as a position of authority. It's usually against college rules in places where it's not illegal. Unlike a former intern teacher getting into a relationship with a former student after having not seen them in 5 years which isn't banned anywhere.

Tbh I feel the adult confidant romances were moreso there for self inserting purposes, for players not comfortable with going for the teenagers. Basically a "have your cake and eat it too" scenario, but I can definitely see why the adult romances feel weird in universe while the teen ones feel weird for the self insertinf
