Regardless the point of the verification system was simply to say that 'this notable person has been verified by Twitter'

For whatever reason those two people were notable enough to be verified. It doesn't mean it was only for super famous people. First guy has 100k+ followers and the second guy has 300k+ followers so they clearly have some sort of following.

So...who cares? The verification system was still doing its job.

But in this topic if you don't give a fuck about entitled rich people losing their minds you're suddenly an imbecile who can't read.

Again, it wasn't just celebrities with it. There are a shitload of people nobody has heard of that had it.

Did I not just say that? I've never heard of the health department of hundreds of towns and counties. I've never heard of every meteorologist and storm chaser. I've never heard of every charity or activist group that organizes events and provides support for people. But those are important resources for some people and important accounts to be properly verified. Pay-to-play with zero oversight or verification fucks that all up. Anyone can pretend to be anyone.

But you're all laser focused on sticking it to the rich celebrities that share opinions you disagree with.

Elon is just handing out checkmarks to a bunch of celebrity accounts anyway, so he's literally still giving entitled rich people special treatment, undermining the whole anti-elitist crusade anyway. Just like how Twitter is stupid and doesn't matter, but apparently Elon is fighting an important battle for free speech because he's... selling new checkmarks (with blackjack and hookers) for $8/month.

Well pinky, the attitude that a verification is nothing more than "Twitter cred" is the very attitude that engendered this abusive rewrite of the system in the first place.

It's not about the "badge of pride". It's about knowing that the person you were reading was the person they claimed to be, and that impersonators were fraudulent.

And yes it may be funny when "Disney Junior UK" posts swear words, but think of it this way: GameFAQs has had an impersonation clause in the board rules for decades!
