Just like in religion, there are small sects that have vastly different beliefs to the others.

A lot of alt right propaganda lie about people giving sex change surgery to 5 years old. Unfortunately, that kind of fear mongering can affect lefist minds

I'm not left, nor am I anti-trans, but I get it.

not on the trans issue in specific, but in general. Part of why we're so messed up as a society is because we act as if there are only two ideologies: left and right.

Imagine you went to mcdonald's and ordered a diet coke, a big mac, medium fries and a sundae. But when you order, the cashier tells you you CAN'T have that. You see, you have two meal packages: You must order your big mac with an XXX-Large coca cola (full sugar), Large fries with lard on top and a milkshake with extra cream. That's it. If you don't take that, you have package B, which has some apple slices (yes, mcdonald's does sell apple slices), water, and a a 4 piece mcnuggets.

It'd be stupid right?

Well that's what politics does.

If you are against racism, suddenly that also means you're for higher social spending, more social safety nets, LGBTQ protection, worker's unions, believe in education and science, and you're worried about the environment. You can to believe all these things at the same time, because "the left" encompasses them all.

Meanwhile the right believes in racism, anti lgbtq, anti unions, climate change deniers, anti-science, anti-education, and against any kind of social spending.

So what if someone is rich and doesn't like unions, does that mean he HAS to be a raging racist and homophobe too? Sadly, the way we have "packaged" political ideology here, it means such a thing, and people fall for it.

The idea of an educated guy that believes in science and knows thar racism is wrong doesn't necessarily mean he has to be pro-union or pro-social spending, for example.

Being left of a group of people who are extremely on the right doesn't actually say much.

Plus the messaging about trans rights has been pretty non-existent and some people have picked very weird battles which are not good ways to get people who are on the fence to swing your way.

You asked why some on the left aren't pro trans and I answered. If you didn't want the answer don't ask the question.

The left isn't a unified force.

A lot of the trans hate you find from otherwise left-leaning people is derived from radical, fringe feminism or LGB movements. Basically they consider trans movements and affront to womanhood or gay erasure. That's how they can seemingly progressive on most rights issues while not seeing their anti-trans stances as an inconsistency.

Now obviously these people are bigots but that's how they don't see themselves as bigots.

social spending cuts and anti-union policies harm queer people and people of colour a lot more than the general population. these issues are not separable from one another.
