@badjay
I think some of the shrinkage is stuff being hard to find. I think most of the shrinkage is the corporation sending the store stuff it does not want. There is no obvious relation between what sells at a Walmart and what they get sent.

I do not think a manager is allowed to to tell corporate that they sent him unsellable merchandise because the creed is a good manager can sell anything.

Edit My common sense tells me that corporate sends stuff that never arrived.

Or the warehouses that purposely send expired product just so the store has to deal with it instead.

These aren't mutually exclusive. Walmart enters a market, wipes out all of its competitors by offering prices they don't have the logistical capabilities to compete with all while the money spent there disproportionately leaves the area. This is why people don't want Walmart in the area. That's valid.

But once Walmart is in the area and has done its thing, it's now like the only retail/grocery in the area, since they wiped out their competition. So if they leave, there is just no retail or grocery left. That is a valid reason for a community protesting Walmart leaving an area.

Yes online shopping exist, but it has a lot of its own price and time issues.

What a load of shit. There are two Walmarts here and there are plenty of other stores around.

The Subway inside the Chatham Walmart got 5 days notice his lease was ending after 5 years???

It wasnt just shoppers caught off guard. Aziz Rupshi ran the Subway inside the Chatham Walmart for almost five years and said the news came as a shock.
Youve put in your hard work, effort, into this location, through the pandemic, through the riots, through everything, and then somebody to come just tell you in five days youve got to go, Rupshi said.

I am having earnest discussions about this because this closure impacts where we live.

Walmart did not get to chose it's original locations so now it is closing the locations it opened just to get into the city.

Originally Walmart had to fight to get into the city.

I saw this and the post you quoted and these are possibilities I hadn't considered or known about. How often does sending expired product or forcing a franchisee to hold unsellable product happen?

If it does again that's part of the number crunching that nobody has access to and we can only ever speculate. I'm inclined to believe that these DO happen, but I have no clue about how MUCH it happens. Same with it's obvious that Walmart steals time, but we will never know HOW much Walmart steals time from its employees. These are statistics we can't really readily access. Although I'm sure they all do happen, but I can't grasp the extent of how much it happens to impact the numbers self reported.

Nothing further about the boycott. It is prolematical. The boycott has to be limited to locations Walmart does not want to close.

Hey market researchers! What is the best way to boycott Walmart so as to encourage them to reopen?

I don't know. Both are owned by Walmart but what's supposed to happen is the warehouse is responsible for the expired product which would put the blame on them instead of the store it is delivered to.

The thefts and stuff just exacerbated the losses and they left.

As someone who does work at Walmart. Nobody in here actually has any idea what they're talking about.

Walmart opened way too many stores and many of these stores are dumpster fires. So, Walmart is closing stores that are high shrink/poor sales. Believe it or not in big cities Walmart struggles to keep up with other stores. Combine that with high shrink and your store is costing them money.

The amount of theft was probably too high, or there were too many stores and they decided to close some of them.

I dont know why the community is so upset when this means small businesses can flourish again since walmart is gone.

Thieves dont care.

I remember I went to jobcorps in a small mountain town and theyve been banned for years from visiting the small shops because the excessive amount of theft. About the only place we where allowed to go once a week if we signed up was Walmart XD. Then a large amount of people would brag about whatever they managed to finesse lol.

You and the quote from the first page are so wrong it's not even funny.

Shrink in this context means theft. The warehouses aren't sending a bunch of expired product (to the tune of 10s on million a year). Also, as far as perishables go...a large chunk of them come on vendor trucks. A lot of product on the grocery side isn't handled by Walmart at all.

As far as the person from the first page talking about "not getting what they wanted and hard to find." That's just...no.

This is what happens when people know criminals and don't try to hold them accountable and steer them away from that lifestyle. The entire community can end up suffering because of a couple of people's greed. Walmart is super rich so it's not like some of the theft hurts them much in the end, but when the sustainability of populations of entire communities are at the mercy of companies like them you have play ball and do what they want. Goes to show how much the people of this country and our prosperity relies on huge corporations.

Yeah, I feel like there's this big misconception about what and why a lot of people steal. There's this long history of movies and shows portraying thieves as down-on-their-luck people with good hearts who just need enough bread to survive and feed their kids.

Unfortunately, that's not the reality.
