I honestly don't remember the last time I watched the movie. It might've been the late 90s or sometime in the very early 2000s. Here are my takeaways:

1. It still holds up. It really shows how bad Avatar is. Cameron's obsession with CGI has hurt his moviemaking. Yes, the technology is cutting edge for its time, but movies like Aliens, Terminator, and T2 are faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar superior to Ferngully with Guns. The whole time I was watching Avatar 2, I kept thinking these special effects would be awesome in a Terminator or Alien movie.

2. Hollywood doesn't write bad ass women like Ripley anymore. Ripley is such a bad ass, and no one questioned this back in the 80s as far as I can remember growing up in the 80s. Everyone just thought Alien and Aliens were bad ass movies. But her bad assery is grounded in reality.

3. I forgot how tall Sigourney is. She was standing shoulder to shoulder with a lot of the marines. Based on an internet search, shes just slightly under 6 feet tall. Compare that to Daisy Ridley and Brie Larson who are both 57 lol. When you see Ripley lugging those two guns taped together and taking out eggs with the flamethrower/grenade launcher, it's just so bad ass.

4. Practical effects always win over CGI. I think most people already know this, but Aliens is such a timeless movie. I can't say the same for the Avatar movies. They're neat to watch when they come out, but I honestly have no desire to ever watch them again after seeing them once.

That's about it off the top of my head.

The pulse rifle is still one of my favourite movie props ever. I own a resin replica of the prop, the collectors nerf rifle replica of the pulse rifle and am even thinking of buying the super expensive air soft replica version of the rifle sometime down the road.

Also picked up the 4 omnibus volumes of the collected last 40 years of Aliens comics. I have the Weyland Yutani Report and tech manuals for weapons, gear, vehicles and ships in the movie.

Aliens is not my favourite movie, but in the top ten.

Also, the only thing I was worried about is that I thought the pacing might be slow since it's an old movie I haven't seen in a long time. But the pacing was actually really good. I was surprised. The early Newt scenes were a little boring, but that's about it. Once the action really gets going, it doesn't really let up until the end.

I will hand it to Cameron that to this day I have never had an experience seeing a 3D movie like the first time I saw Avatar. But it just didn't feel as fresh in Avatar 2. The bad story and the fact that you're staring at CGI characters instead of live actors really got to me the second time around.

It's level up pool is bad but it'll still do decent damage because of its raw stats for awhile. You can also get phanpy before the first gym but it's level pool is arguably even worse. Even better you can get Growlithe before the first gym also so you get easy access to a fire type Incase you didn't choose cyndaquil

As far as action movies go, I think it's easily in the Top 5. It does everything right. The Alien franchise has obviously sputtered ever since, but it's literally impossible for anything they could churn out to even come close to being as good as Alien and Aliens were.

Favorite scene right near the end, shes crying at holding Newts locator, hears her scream and no hesitation, gets up to go on saving newt and blasting the nest to hell.

Fuck, Sigourney did such a job as Ripley that even the movies after are still all right.

Still shitty how they did Beihn dirty.

I watched the cast commentary on the blu ray and he talked about how he thought people would be glad when Hudson died because they were annoyed by him. Then was shocked when fans would come running up to him telling him how much they loved the character.

In the first movie, sure. In the second movie, she's pretty Rambo if he were a surrogate mother.

If Aliens were released today, the anti-woke mob would have a field day with how she singlehandedly took down the hive of aliens that wiped out a battalion of space marines.

I would say learning that she outlived her daughter and missed the majority of her life made her pretty vulnerable. But her determination to prevent humanity from potentially dooming itself in the name of greed and her determination to protect Newt are what drive her to fight.
