not really, but in noisy places you think that regular earbuds just can't block out most of the sound based on your experience?

it depends on the headphones. some headphones definitely do it better than others. i wouldnt use cheap headphones willingly either way though. But its absolutely noticeable on the likes of apple airpods pro, bose QC45, etc. i think its absolutely necessary if you are using headphones in a loud area

if you are using it inside where its quiet, just get a pair of open back headphones

have you tried iems (in-ear monitors)? those go deeper in the ear generally. i find them useful for drowning out construction noise right outside the house. there are also custom iems that conform to your ears 99^-100% and should be even better at blocking out noise.

dont have anc earbuds to compare to my universal (non-custom) iems tho.

i do own anc over-ear headphones (bose qc 35, sony wh1000x & x3) and id say they provide a bit more isolation than my two closeback headphones (zmf verite closed and some gaming headset forgot name).

aren't the anc headphones that you own, kinda expensive? i mean the bose qc 35. What exactly are iems though, how do they differ from other earbuds?

iems go right into the ear canal rather than staying at the outer edge.
here is a pic

A is the earbud

B,C, D are iems

anc headphones aren't as expensive as non-anc headphones at the upper-end of price. most expensive headphone that isn't covered in jewelry is the sennheiser he-1 its around 60 grand.

i got me some Sony LinkBuds S and they're like the best of three worlds: they're compact, comfortable and have pretty good sound quality (with noise cancelling as well).
