That was The Fine Bros and they tried to copyright the react format on the channel not the concept of reacting itself but people blew it out of proportion but fuck The Fine Bros anyway for trying to copyright that shit in the first place.

Pokemon was released in 1999 named Pokemon because someone else already had Pocket Monsters trademarked in America (it was some shitty toy line).

Monster was created in 2002.

The very thought that the USPTO already approved Pokemon to differentiate it from Pocket Monsters somehow isn't good enough for Monster Energy which didn't exist until 3 years later is going to be ridiculed so fucking hard in court and they are going to get their asses handed to them.

The only one in danger of rebranding here is Monster Energy.

i like a few monster flavors, but they honestly need to be fucked hard in court so they stop bullying games and smaller companies into silence or bankruptcy

i really don't understand why a drink company that wants a presence in the game ecosystem with branding and sponsorships also wants to be a complete clownshow and destroy their reputation with their own consumerbase

I've often been bamboozled by this issue. I can't count the amount of times I'd bought a Monster thinking it was Charizard piss or Machamp sweat tea only to realize after I drank it that it contained no actual Pokmon fluids. I've repeatedly gotten refunds from Monster Energy for this, but they're probably losing millions a year paying back guys like me.

I hope they get absolutely destroyed for this bullshit.

Even if they existed beforehand, sometimes the newer ones win. Thing is, that only ever works out in American courts and maybe a UK court if the newer company legitimately explodes to become a household name while the original can't muster up money for a lawyer team.

In Japan? I don't see this going anywhere and certainly not for such a common term. This is more like if someone made a company with a name like The. The, nothing more. And then went after like, everyone. The old spaghetti factory, the who, the queens of the stone age, the LEGO group, etc.

Its been at least 47 years since I saw their garbage apology video so I may be mistaken, but werent they pathetically incapable of describing what their format, the thing they were trying to copyright, was beyond sitting someone in front of a video camera and having them react to a video?
