Nope, his school failed to produce a single jedi to so his destiny ended before it even begun. His family in the end were nothing more then tools for the true protagonist of the saga.

Daisy did an interview with Josh Gad once, and he asked her how she felt about the big twist with her. J. J. Abrams went up to her in the middle of filming RoS and said "guess what, Palpatine is your grandfather". Then the very next day, she went up to him and asked him about it, and he said "actually, no, we're probably not doing that". And then a few days later, they changed it back.

I think Disney has done a really good job with the IP...except the sequel trilogy. Which is the one you would expect they'd have the attention to. It's like night and day compared to the MCU in terms of planned out everything was in advance.

Abrams had a three movie outline put together and he shared those notes with Rian Johnson so that there could be some degree of continuity between the three of them. According to Ridley, Johnson threw out the notes and basically did the opposite of everything that was in them. Now, I obviously don't have any proof that this was out of spite or pettiness, but it does put the middle movie taking every plot thread and going "LOL it's nothing" and put it in a new light.

JJ wasn't great with parts 1 and 3 either. Now part of 3 comes from 2 and the death of Carrie but even then, it's still on JJ at the end of the day. And part 1 was entertaining, but still had a lot of issues. Finn never felt like the character his background suggests, it started the issues with Rey and it was pretty derivative with yet another Death Star. It basically said 40 years later and the universe is exactly where it was at the start of episode 4 again.

RJ and Episode 8 ARE the worst though.
