Bowser uses force lightning at the start.
To be more specific I believe that's the KOTOR 2 Force Storm spell.
...And then he never uses it again?

Mario getting one-shotted by a random magikoopa is still lame.

SMG is all presentation with little substance. Mario feels like a tank and it's piss easy.

SMG2 is where it's at.

The file screen says I last played in 2010 and as if that amount of time wasn't enough, I'm also inevitably going to misremember things from Galaxy 2 being from Galaxy 1 and vice versa.

Stars don't feel as satisfying to collect as Shine Sprites.
I am torn between making this game feel more tense with the Crazy Gadget music and turning it into an endurance test with the Mad Space music.

I'm kind of curious what people thought of this when Nintendo released that 3 in 1 game a few years ago.

At the time it was new and flashy but with Mario 64 speedruns doing crazier stuff than you'll probably ever see in this game and Mario Sunshine just being out for blood in general, I wonder what people playing Galaxy for the first time made of it.

Galaxy 1 is good but 2 blows it completely out of the water, which is how I feel most people remember it.

The Bowser boss theme started playing and all I could think of was old Gmod videos.
It's pretty great though, makes launching him around the planet feel grandiose.

Same with me a few years back. Always remembered it being difficult, got to the base fight, did it first try with no damage, and said "fuck it, daredevil time." And got it first try.

I should replay the 3D Marios tbh.

I don't know how anyone could think it's vastly superior, since as far as the gameplay is concerned, Galaxy 2 has everything the first game has and more. But as far as everything else goes, it just boils down to preference. The first one is a hell of a lot more memorable to me, so I do prefer it over Galaxy 2. And every other 3D Mario game for that matter.

And done.
Man that was kind of a slog. Most of it is "Look at this use of the wii remote!"
-There's no real challenge. There's being told to guess where five fragments of something are followed by exiting back to the observatory because there's bound to be a faster level somewhere else.
-Sometimes it does the Sonic Adventure 2 Mad Space thing where you hold a direction and Mario just runs the wrong way or runs in circles. Motion controls are a pain in general.
-I feel like it's really easy to bonk on stuff in this game. You're just jumping or air spinning or long jumping and the game finds a way to have you snag something and fall down. Game also has weird rules about what you can and can't wall jump off of. Like in the ice level they won't let you jump and spin up the side of the mountain because they're dead set on forcing you to use the ice flower.
-Music's less catchy, it's going for more of a space atmosphere kind of thing. I'm not feeling it.
-What were they thinking when they made these boss fights? I really wanna bring up the stupid fucking spinning top. You jump on it and spin into it three times and it drops. I mean at least King Caliente is big and you have to hit the ball back and forth. The flying bug at least gets angrier between hits and tries some different strategies. Even Dino Piranha has a bit more flair and the fire upgrade in Melty Molten Galaxy even if he's another three spins to win fight. Why is the spinning top a boss?
-I really don't like the underwater controls in this one. Felt like he was slipping in every direction.

I feel similarly to how I do about Zelda TP. Its initial novelty has long since worn off and now without motion controls being a new thing, it's kind of just there as another squeaky clean run and jump and rescue Peach from Bowser adventure for Mario.
I like Sunshine a lot more.
