What do you think of using laser pointers as a dog/cat toy?

I (Butters) love to use laser pointers on dogs and cats, but sometimes my aunt/uncle's current dog gets too obsessed with it and can't think of anything besides that red glowy bug.

I dunno some people think it's teasing them by having them chase something they'll never catch. But dogs and cats don't have to chase the red laser bug if they don't want to, and many don't. I think if a pet is choosing to chase it then they must be having fun.

they are actually kind of harmful to cats/dogs since they are a lot more sensitive to light than we are.

Yeah, but shouldn't it be okay as long as it's not being shined directly in their eye?

For dogs, you can mess the dog up. It's better to find other toys the dog can actually catch. It's generally safe for cats, but overuse can be bad.

Unfornately the poll options are too vague.

they're alright as a supplement, but you gotta make sure you also play with something they can actually catch

Why is it different for dogs and cats?

I'm not too familiar with the exact details, but dogs can develop behavior problems from playing with a laser pointer.
