Political maneuvering with the Eurasian bloc -- er, I mean union -- has been way too slow and steady for his liking. America tossed the biggest hot potato in the Middle East their way. What do buyers interested in Russian arms not do when millions of dollars in NATO equipment is left for them? Buy Russian guns. Anyway, with that in mind, the "war" in the Ukraine has been going on for years longer than Western media has really talked about it. Him being sick, or mentally unwell, or whatever doesn't track when the real timeline of events is observed.

He wants permanent access to the black sea, some new ports and a naval yard, oil reserves, insane farmland and agricultural benefits. Couldn't particularly care about the people; he'll just immigrate citizens from Siberia, etc to the ruins. Gulags and penal battalions will rebuild it. But I genuinely don't think he predicted NATO would react so deliberately. For as much as Russia denies they are at war, NATO denies being involved, to the tune of billions of dollars funneled into the war economy from both sides.

NATO needs to continue to do what they are to win, more or less. Russia needs to call the worlds biggest bluff and deploy their actual combined arms capabilities to win. However, Russia is not even operating in a war economy. In fact, their GDP and assets held is projected to grow this year. An interesting and highly peace-time oriented strategy, but that's a whole other rant. In all likelihood Ukraine will capitulate much of their South, remain autonomous and independent, join NATO, and peace will be declared. NATO gets that stalwart, self-imposed nation state they can democratize directly into their paychecks due to being so indebted. Russia gains access to the black sea, continues to grow its peace-time economy, has gotten back their best arms dealer, and managed to make Scandinavia upset again for giggles. Life goes on.

We can't let Russia have black sea access. If that is their goal, then it must be kept from them. I don't want Putin to gain anything. I want this war to be a failure for him.

All stolen parts of Ukraine must be returned. Hell, at this point, I'd be happy if Ukraine steals chunks of Russia. Or even raises a Ukrainian flag over the Kremlin

Sevastopol black sea port. They have it in Crimea but the river runs through Ukraine and Ukraine (rightfully) blocked the water from reaching Crimea, devastating the farmland there.

Russia needs the port for them to continue to be an important geopolitical player.

It really doesn't look like he'll stop unless he gets something. China's lining up to coddle them through any severe downturn, this could go on forever.

That's why Ukraine should just go for the finish, and do to Russia, what Russia did to Germany in ww2

It was supposed to be easy and project Putins power since he no longer owned the US presidency. Its probably the first time in his life he hasnt gotten what he wanted.

He hasn't gotten everything he wanted, but he's definitely gotten some. He wanted a bunch of dead Ukrainians and he's definitely gotten that so far.

True. But now the idea of the Russian military is destroyed. They are now exposed as insanely incompetent and really only have nuke threats left for fear.

I don't think their Nukes are anywhere near as well maintained as they like us to believe.

The cost for maintaining Nukes in operating condition is $Hundreds of Millions per year.

Given the Military Kleptocracy, I don't think they're anywhere near "Working condition".

It's all one giant "Bluff" like their military.

From a military perspective, Ukraine's got some entrances to Russia, economically they got goodies they can harvest, and politically a large dollop of Putin's ego and psychopathy make for a Devil's pie

Ukraine stopped being a Putin-puppet, right before Crimea got grabbed. That's what this is about.

Likely but they had thousands. Even if a few work it's still a risk not worth taking unless absolutely necessary.

Given how their Plutocrats have stolen from their military, I don't think they have any nukes that are working.

They just have the shells of the cold war and use it to threaten everybody via bluffs.
