It can go on some deep sales and it really doesn't overstay its welcome. Certain moments can feel like stuck in a reboot of what the ppl where already doing, but it never felt too annoying. Cold Steel needed 4 damn games to tell their story? Tokyo Xanadu ex+ did it in one!!!

I haven't seen the true ending which I apparently unlocked but that could happen someday.

I'm a pretty big Ys fan so would like any action rpg from them, gurumin being another fun one I played. But I don't think tokyo xanadu is for me, it looks very anime and basic and not as fun as Ys. Maybe if it were more like a persona action rpg

I'd say try it out if you can play on Steam and get a refund if it isn't exciting you right away. I've heard good things about it but it's not my usual wheel house.

Yo this game is better than Ys7 the one I think I do want to finish. But this game was slept on.

I recently finished it and loved it.

The only other Falcom series I've played is Trails, and Kou is my second favorite protagonist of theirs behind Estelle.

Kou is way better than Rean.

Playing the epilogue right now surprised it is so lengthy. It recently got or is getting a Switch release so that's cool. I should have bought it for the PS4 but I've been playing it through the GoG PC store front.

What did the collector's edition have? I should look into that just for a curiosity.

A scale figure of the White Shroud, a mini soundtrack, an art book, the game and a Gate of Avalon deck.

I got it for like $50 and tbh the figure alone should be worth more than that.

Have you ever played Persona? Because it's like a cross between that and Ys. Even has some coy references lol.

It's a game that was hard for me to start because it felt so clunky, but once more moves were unlocked I found a good rhythm going and I genuinely enjoyed the game.

The limited bonding point stuff ripped from Trails is annoying, though. Next replay will be NG+ so maybe next time I'll actually see all the bonding events.

Also why is Towa in this game? I don't think that was ever explained. At least Magical girl Alisa makes sense as a sorta Easter egg, anime in game thing.

It's Towa but it's not the same character as in Cold Steel.

Is it? Thats so weird. Major spoilers Shiori being dead for ten years but Kou wished her back to life sorta so she was there was all those years but only in the immediate area. The rest of the world knew she died in the original earthquake.

Trails of Cold Steel and Ys are treated as video games in the Tokyo Xanadu universe.

If you go into the electronics store there's a kid playing a demo for ToCS 2.

I did notice the kid was looking forward to the next big rpg, but he had to do really good on his exams. This was in the epilogue.

Also I like the guy who just ate beans and meager food so he could hear Spika with better headphones he was saving up for.

Not quite.

Shiori herself wished not to die so Kou wouldn't blame himself. The Twilight Apostole heard her and fused with her before being vanquished. Kou just lived in denial for 10 years and tried to distract himself by being extremely busy.

Kou did work a lot.

Its was extremely ok. It felt like a random generic anime story wise and gameplay was ok as well.

I think ys are better

It's better than Ys 7. Also i liked Loyd more than Rean.

I also saw someone speculate about a sequel just because there was some new merchandise to coincide with the switch release, a notebook with silhouettes of two unknown characters. I think it's someone just being hopeful plus it wouldn't be seen in English for a very very long time.

Anyhow I finished the Epilogue, got the true ending and there's an, (minor post post game spoiler) after party with even more content, I was amazed! I am going to try and work on that tonight. It takes place around Halloween. What a surprise that was, that I got more.

Well, for a while Falcom was just developing games for Vita. At least with the new Trials games like Kuro no Kiseki, they look like mildly budgety PS4 games instead of ported handheld games. Although Kuro No Kiseki looks better than Ys 9 because it was PS4/PS5 only and wasn't being ported to Switch. It doesn't look anything like the new Star Ocean graphics wise, but it's still miles better than Ys 8.

... But yes Tokyo Xanadu was a Vita game so it looks last like a HD remake of a PS2 game.

I own it but I recall the game being a bit meh. The action gameplay is a bit more like a fleshed out Rune Factory but I admittedly didn't play it too much.

This is crazy talk but I think I'm one of the few people that really loved Ys 7 and it is what sparked my love in the series. I also prefer the party group set up than the solo Adol outings so there's that too.

Heres the thing that Ive heard about this game:
It was made by the newbies at Falcom so they could get some real experience in game developing. Thats why you see a ton of re-used assets from Cold Steel including what is essentially just Towa again. That and Persona was popping off so they wanted to make a modern setting like that. Basically Trails in a modern setting with Ys gameplay.

I should really get back to it. When I played it I didnt get far but its an enjoyable game. They should make a sequel.

While I did enjoy it more than Ys7, (that game was pretty good overall though) I thought I would love exploring more and the story never got quite that good except for a few instances. I have not completely finished it though. Other than that I only played Memories of Celceta which I thought sucked mostly and some Ys game on the Genesis/Mega Drive forever ago so I could really only compare this game to YS7 and Memories of Celceta.

Tokyo Xanadu does have a PS2 looking style to it but it works for it and is one of the best looking PS2 games ever hah I think all the colors look great.

That's interesting SimulationSwarm. I know when I was first looking into it a lot of people called it a worse Persona, but it had action combat and well there is some importance to friend link events you could just not do them and it wouldn't even effect the game much. It was more important raising your social stats which sure is Persona like but *shrugs* I feel like it's still quite a bit different. Tokyo Xanadu came out in 2015 which was before Persona 5 so I feel like it's more high tech than that series at least 3 and 4. (I do like all the Personas btw).

I woulda likely finished the after story if I didn't have triple d and storms. This game isn't that great, but Cold Steel really burned me out and in 4 I forced myself to finish it and I was really sad. I am so old.
