No, no, theyre right. If the system is broken beyond repair and no amount of protest or voting can change it, well. The entire point of protest, gathering people together in large groups, is to remind those in power what happens if the protest is ignored.

Theres a step thats supposed to come after protesting if protesting doesnt work. One of the points of protesting is to remind those in power how many of the rest of us there are, and to say right now we are only protesting. I cant say what the next step is, of course.

Isn't the narrative around here that if you can't post your opinion without getting modded, it's a horrible opinion? I've also never seen anyone get modded for saying the system needs to be torn down and rebuilt, but I could have just missed it. Unless there's some rabid violence to go along with it, which I guess would go hand in hand with tearing it all down.

I'm also really curious about what's going to replace our current system. It's always talk about tearing it down, never about that process and what comes after.

Yes, unfortunately these things work for both good means and bad. The country would never have been founded without the thing that comes after protest. But then, January 6th. The knife cuts both ways, which is why its important to try everything other than that first.

All I'm saying is the Jews and LGBTQ people of 1940s Germany weren't eventually saved by peaceful protest, fair elections, and respectful conversations that understood both sides of an issue.

I'm not suggesting anything. Just saying that when a system fails innocent people, they still need to be saved. Clearly the system in place will not do the trick.

There is can overcome human nature.
If you're wating or fighting for a paradigm shift, I don't think you'll see it. What you want basically requires the emergence of some kind of neo-human. In short, you're expectations don't meet reality. Stop writing yourself off and stop expecting the rest of the world to do the work.

I really want to know what hockeybub is actively doing for all this. They've lost faith in voting, they think protesting is now useless. They're very vocal about all of us not yelling about politics 24/7....

I do think it's human nature. Many people so good things and are truly good people, but there are bad people that do bad things. I don't see what is so controversial about there being a spectrum of human behavior. I don't think it's controversial to believe there is no system that can overcome human behavior. You can shit on my intelligence and education, both are subpar, but this seems pretty basic to me. Either way, you could also be cool and engage, I'm open to new ideas and thinking.

And ok, I get that I can't save the world and need to not drive myself mad, but I'm not accepting that the advice for people suffering on this planet is "Life sucks and then you die. It's human nature that bad people will hurt innocent people."

There is always going to be bad things and people in the world. Do what you can, treat people with kindness, and don't be ashamed to seek your own happiness.

I do buy entertainment because I am cursed with being able to do barely anything to save the world. I don't have billions of dollars. I don't even have an outgoing attitude. I'm terrified of public. All I can do is vote, donate and go to events here and there, and distract myself from reality with fun diversions. But it's all just distractions from the truth and hoping things don't get so bad it can't even be escaped from temporarily.

Fair enough, I don't know that much about the history but at a technological level the situation is different, also there is a different political order. I could go into more details but I'm not trying to argue with Holocaust survivors.

Outside Of things like war, the economy, elections, crime and other serious matters I care little for it to be honest.

And the amount of irrelevant dribble that's made a big deal of often I usually just shrug about and ignore. Which is a crap ton it sadly.

I think most people deserve happiness. I just also think the world is only as good as the worst experience people have with it. We all have to entertain ourselves some or it would be impossible to even go on. Stop trying to find hypocrisy. I do what I can with the little the world has allowed me.

A lot of that "irrelevant dribble" is literally destroying the world because evil people have deemed it part of the one-sided culture war they are fighting. If we ignore them not ignoring it, we will all suffer. This isn't some nice world where everyone gets along well and all the crazy people are just humorously yelling at the sky to no avail. They're turning their list of grievances into policy on a state or national level.

Usually they're full of shit though. Whole lotta "I avoid political discussion" types tend to show up for a lot of political discussions.

And they sure do have a lot of opinions about who should get to play sports, what medical procedures kids and women should have access to, what we're allowed to teach in schools, etc.
