In their games. NISA is really bad about stuff like this. What is the point? Is it meant to be immersive? It's not and actually takes me out of it. In rare cases pop culture references work (like Futaba in P5) but when lines are COMPLETELY changed to put in some senseless reference, that's annoying =/

I take it you really hated working designs in their heyday since that was one of their main things, lol. (the other being the controversial practice of making games harder or in popful mail's case more grindy just because they thought they knew better compared to the actual devs who made the games).

It kinda depends. I don't mind the occassionaly reference, if it's just lighthearted filler dialogue anyway, like those Pokemon trainer pre and post battle quotes, or some random NPC conversations. But for main stuff I'd prefer not to have pop culture references unless they're specifically replacing a native reference that wouldn't make sense to the translation's target audience.

On the other hand, sometimes these stupid memes are a fun time capsule when you revisit an old game. Like that moron in Pheonix Wright who speaks entirely in early 00's 1337speak. >_>
