On how Super Mario Bros. compares to his other franchises and which means more to him

Well, I mean, it stands alone and in its reach, I think. I think certainly, like, I loved Jurassic Park as a kid. I was 13 years old when it came out. It was a big part of my childhood, he recalled. I might have seen the movie maybe five or six times through the course of growing up. Well, five or six times is you know, whatever. A few hours.

In comparison, I played this game for hundreds of hours. Probably maybe 1000 hours of my childhood spent. And so like the sound of hitting a coin, catching a flower, hearing the score, every little detail of the movie, it was like I was hypnotized by it as a child. So to see it now, I mean, just nothing really compares to it in terms of my relationship to the brand. So its pretty, pretty cool. Pretty incredible. And also, I care just as much as everyone else to make sure that doesnt get screwed up.

On plans for a sequel

I think it was understood that it could potentially be, but I actually havent even thought that far ahead, Chris said about the possibility of returning to the role for future movies.

He added that nothing was set in stone yet.

Its not like Marvel is like, Oh, youre going to be Star-Lord. Cool. Were signing on to a 4,000 picture deal and youre like Great, I will do it. But with animation, typically its like you do one, you see how it does, and if it does well, then you can always go back to do more, he shared.

On people criticizing his casting as Mario

Oh I totally get it, man. Theres a passionate fan base and Im one of the fans. I get it. Mostly, people dont want something like this to get screwed up. Theyre precious about it. Theyre careful. And Im grateful for that, he opined.

I think I've played Mario for less than 150 hours. My most played was Mario 64 ds version. Spent some time playing the minigames lol

I always feel weird admitting this, but I never found any enjoyment in Mario games.

He was good in Guardians of the Galaxy, but insufferable in Jurassic World with his corny hand gesture he did every 5 minutes.

Honestly same.

Mario Kart/Party is always fun at hangouts/parties but other than that, couldn't be bothered playing Mario games by myself

You could put the greatest actor ever in that garbage Jurassic World role and it would still be insufferable. At least Pratt can make the horrendously bad so bad it is super cringe that it comes back around to being watchable.

He's exceptionally talented at his particular brand of comedy, which is playing the borderline-douchey yet ultimately loveable dope. But after he lost weight and became a stud, apparently he became more marketable as a bland action lead. This is why I'm open to him voicing Mario; I liked Pratt well enough as Emmet in The Lego Movie, and movie-Mario will probably end up being a similar character (the fish out of water who grows into the hero role after getting his ass repeatedly handed to him for the first half of the movie).

I still think he would have made a good Indiana Jones, had they decided to reboot the franchise (not strictly by imitating Harrison Ford, but by bringing his own brand of action / humor to the role and letting the reboot evolve around that). But that ship has all but sailed at this point, now that 'Chris Pratt is in every role' has long since reached meme status.

I mean if hes played 1000 hours in a non-specified mario game then hes definitely qualified!
