I know someone who has the last name of Raper. I assume it comes from ancestors who harvested/grew/whatever rape seed. It's a kind of unfortunate name.

Popular confectionery in Sweden and Denmark. Nobody had any problems with the name. Blacks even joked about them on the telly.
Why?
Because in Sweden, the N-word simply meant "dark skinned person". It didnt have the stigma that America had turned the word into.
Were Swedes ignorant of it?
No, they knew that it had a different meaning out West. They also knew when in Rome.
There were other words that were used to offense dark skinned people if you wanted to do that.
Then one day 20 years ago, a white PK person saw a sign with the word in a bakery. He decided to sue the bakery "in case somebody could get offended".
The bakery won, because the PK person wasnt offended, but it also killed the use of the name. It is now called chocolate balls.
The old name is still being used, not in public, simply because of the Swedish definition of the word.
